Not awesome

Had a reservation for Saturday. King size bed. Checked in and was informed that we'd been "upgraded" to a queen jr. suite. We were tired and hungry so I let it go. Obviously there were no king rooms left or we'd have been given what we paid for. To be fair the room was nice and would have been an upgrade for someone wanting a kitchenette. But we had no use for a kitchenette so for us it was a major downgrade.

The restaurant downstairs looked nice so we headed there for a light dinner at about 9pm. Long story short the service was very slow - not a server issue, they were simply understaffed. At 9:45pm I was told that they were out of chicken for my salad, and by 9:50pm I was told that I needed to order because they were closing at 10pm.

We ended up not eating and just headed to bed.

Had we been greeted promptly and informed of the chicken outage before we placed our order it would have been no big deal. But between this and the smaller bed the I didn't enjoy the experience. This was the first night of a romantic getaway and after four hours of LA traffic and then this we weren't off to a great start.

I will still recommend this hotel because the staff was courteous and professional and the facilities are very nice. On this particular night we did not receive the pleasant experience that we paid for, but based on the reviews I read before booking your experience will likely be a good one.

I'm a repeat offender

This is a very good hotel @ a great value--esp when part of the rewards program. Their hamburger grilled on the Sta Maria BBQ is The Bomb! As a Spire Elite member, I got a late 2pm check-out which helped get my *free* laundry done before leaving. Conveniently close to the 101, backs right up to it, yet I never heard a sound from it! I'd recommend this H.I. to anyone.
