Have stayed at the HI Rocks on several occasions.
Location is the key. Hotel appears to be well run, all staff have been helpful and courteous.
Only issue is rooms are showing their age and in my opinion would benefit from a refresher. Actually, the rooms are not too bad, the bathrooms however, are showing their age. A prior ''renovation'' appears to have used an epoxy spray application over the bathroom tiles, which in places has lost its bond and peeled.
Bar area and restaurant are almost a 2nd thought as the area is full of decent restaurants and bars, so I guess the hotel thought it pointless to compete.
For the price, in the location, it's hard to beat. Could it be better....sure, but don't expect the same room rates.....

From the moment we arrived we found the staff very helpful Our room was ready unexpected because it was only 10am We were bed and breakfast and the buffet was spotlessly clean plenty of choice and eggs made to order. Even made us a boxed breakfast on our last morning due to our departure time Laundry facility was and extra plus after 35 days on a cruise Nick at reception went the extra mile and even booked a table at the restaurant we wanted to visit and checked the opening times of the left luggage department at Sydney airport

My husband sprained his ankle whilst stepping off the kerb on to the road just outside the hotel. We came back inside and asked for some ice to use as a cold pack to place on his ankle. We were given a large bag of ice and returned to our room. The next day we appreciated receiving a letter of concern from the management asking if all was okay.

Really enjoyed the 2 nights I stayed. The staff (eg Mary and Nick) at front of desk were particularly friendly and helpful.
Unlike a previous stay at this hotel I did not use the pool facilities but did enjoy the roof top area to watch a cruise ship leave port.
The close proximity to restaurants/cafes and Circular Quay make this an ideal place to stay. The tariff may be a little high but the ease of access to a variety of places counteracts this in a way.
It was pleasing this time to have a room with a view of the city, much appreciated.

We had a great stay, the service upgraded us, the bath and shower was great, we got to relax watching television without noise or disturbances. We loved how close we were to the Port and the ease of walking there. The Opera House was close as was the Botanic Gardens. All in all we loved being where we were. The staff was great, the breakfast was great and the service was excellent.
Good job Holiday Inn.

We enjoyed our first visit to this hotel so much that we chose to come back again. It is very well situated - we arrived by rental car from the North, unloaded and took the car back to the hire company not far away - and left by train from Circular Quay Station to the Airport - and is only a short walk from Circular Quay, Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and the City Centre - that's if The Rocks doesn't keep you occupied! The CityExplorer tour bus stops just outside. Breakfasts are excellent and there are plenty of restaurants nearby, but don't leave it too late to eat - this is Sydney, not Spain! The Staff are helpful, and the swimming pool small but nicely situated with great views.

Room was sparse and bare, more like a dorm room. Ac and heat were poor, was either on or off. Room was poorly finished off. Bar and restraunt facilities are almost non existent, no ambience. I stayed in the airport hotel which was way better than this. Only positive was helpful staff and location.no recognition of platinum status.
