I would give the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Trinidad, Colorado, 5 Stars. The hotel is located just off I-25 for easy access. The hotel is very modern, clean and well staffed. I will be staying there again and would recommend it to any traveler for business or leisure.

When you are on the road, arriving late at night and leaving early the next morning, you want no fuss - no hassle - comfort - and all for a good price. In Trinidad if you want all this and there is a better deal that this Holiday Inn - TAKE IT - but I doubt you'll find one.
We had four people including a guest so the suite room with a door was perfect to provide privacy and the two queens in the main bedroom ensured no complaints from the teenager about a sleeper sofa.
Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. As Holiday Inn facilities go - probably a little above average for condition - you could certainly stay there comfortably for more than one night.
And convenience! Right off the interstate - yet VERY QUIET - even with our room facing the highway. Very happy and got a great nights sleep. And wonderful views of snow capped Spanish Peaks in the morning.

Driving from Phoenix to Northern Colorado we ended up having weather issues through the Raton Pass. Thankfully we were able to make it to this hotel (without an advanced reservation). Paul at the front desk was so wonderful. Paul was very understanding and friendly as we did not plan on stopping during our trip, but weather took over our plans, it was nice to have someone sympathic to our situation.
We were able to make last call at the Bar, so walking in there right at last call I know can be annoying to the Bartender as she was probably ready to close out for the night. I can't remember her name, but she did not seem to mind at all. She was efficient, quick, and smiling the entire time while she served us a couple of drinks.
Breakfast the next morning was great, menu, prices, staffing - all was wonderful.
Checkout - Of course coming from Phoenix, we did not have a snow scrapper to brush off our truck in the morning - which is now covered in about 1 1/2 feet of snow. Thankfully the hotel staff had one we were able to borrow for a few minutes. Checkout was quick and our bill was exactly as we were told it would be.

After 2-days of travel, this hotel was a like an oasis. We were tired and hungry and wanted a nice place to stay. We could not have chosen a better hotel for night number 2 of 4 on our journey from Texas to Seattle. First impressions are important, and our check-in experience was fantastic. The attendant could not have been more friendly or helpful. She advised us of the on-site dining room for dinner and breakfast and even told us that the ice machine on the 2nd floor was not working, but that we could get ice from the dinning room. She was honest and upfront, and we appreciated that. The dinner was great, the sleep was great, and next morning's breakfast was super. The other impression that is so important for a successful hotel operation is the check-out. It was very pleasant and quick. This hotel has a experienced and well-trained staff that understands how to provide excellent customer service at the 5-Star level.
