One reason why I'm loyal to one hotel group is that I always get upgraded when the hotel has the possibility of doing so. This HI Montmartre is the one exception to the rule. In spite of it saying clearly in the membership terms for platinum and spire members there is a complimentary upgrade if rooms are available when I asked about this I was told I could only get upgraded if I paid extra. So basically the rooms were available but not offered.
The hotel room has a minibar fridge but it's totally empty - one bottle of water in the room is normally standard in the IHG hotels I stay in but in this hotel not.
Finally it's just a personal preference but I wish the beds had a soft pillow option as all the pillows are really firm (even the ones marked 'soft') and I also do not like to material of the duvet. I know it's not fair to compare maybe (as it's a more expensive hotel) but a few weeks ago I stayed at the intercontinental in Madrid and their pillows were amazing and so was the duvet.
Finally I really wish there were plugs for mobile phones next to the bed - currently these are only by the desk which means you have to chose between charging your phone at night or being able to switch off your alarm without having to get out of bed but having a phone not charged when you wake up.
Some of the staff at the front desk are nice however, the location is good and the room rate is decent.

We finished off our holiday with a brief stay in Paris, staying at the Holiday Inn Montmartre -- and loved it. The staff was friendly and attentive, the room was comfortable, and quiet (we did receive an upgrade to a rear-facing room, but it's a side street so I don't know if the street-facing rooms would have been noisier). We were sad to leave after two nights.
