Its many landmarks include Maiden's Tower, Galata Tower, the Suleymaniye Mosque and the Eminonu Pier. And the attractions don't stop there. Istanbul's 60+ museums and galleries include the Hagia Sophia Museum, the Sakip Sabanci Museum and the Istanbul Archaeology Museum.
Known as a city where East meets West, Istanbul is famed for its markets with all sorts of varied souvenirs, fashion and food. As well as regular outdoor markets, the city is home to Grand Bazaar, a covered market made up of over 60 indoor streets. The market itself is hundreds of years old. There are also dozens of other shopping centres in the city, including the Metrocity AVM in the city's finance district.
Football is big business in Istanbul. The three biggest teams plying their trade here are Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, with the latter two being fierce rivals. The city is also home to a basketball team, FB Ulker.
