Overall one of the nice newer HI's with stylish decor, modern bathrooms (walk in shower).
First room aircon wasn't working, rooms are warm and although windows open that also lets in noise. I was
moved without fuss to a room to the rear (less traffic noise but service vehicles in the morning).
Unfortunately the hotel attracts lots of Harry Potter horrors sorry families, which meant quite a lot of noise at 11pm from rowdy children, which effectively rules this hotel out for me.
Didn't have a chance to eat at the hotel and you can walk to a wide choice of places in the High St and the local shopping Mall (Intu) anyway, but public areas are nice and the flexibility of the 'open lobby' is nice - works well elsewhere.
Overall the staff are great, the rooms fine (mattress initially felt soft but was fine), and most of the time, except crucially when you're trying to nod off, quiet. Perhaps the hotel could keep all the families on one floor and they can keep each other awake.
I'm unlikely to need to stay in or near Watford soon and I was spoiled having just stayed at the brand new Intercontinental 02 which was bliss, but whilst the staff are a definite asset I didn't feel the hotel quite lived up to the reputation from other reviews, unless you're used solely to certain other very budget chains or 'family run' b [Less]
