I stayed at this HIE location just before the COVID pandemic began significantly impacting North America, and this was my first business trip/hotel stay since COVID precautions became part of
standard practice for businesses.
Overall, the hotel offers the same basic value (probably a little better since so few are travelling), but with a few services reduced as the pandemic has necessitated. The pool isn't open; the breakfast bar is both reduced in its selection and now requires a staff member to serve up what you do choose on a paper plate with disposable cutlery (I really wish they could offer standard plates and cutlery that can be washed to reduce the waste); rooms are only serviced once every 5 days (but I only stayed for 3), and anything you need for the bathroom must be requested at reception. In other words, the very sort of measures you can expect in many hotels.
Compensated a little for the pool and hot tub/spa by booking a room with a large tub. The breakfast was a little disappointing in its fare (missed the guava juice as an alternative to apple, orange or cranberry), with the eggs, breakfast sausages and baked beans being edible, but even less appealing than usual.
When rooms are cleaned, the housekeeping staff should always leave a spare roll of toilet paper (shouldn't have to ask for another, but maybe they are taking extra precautions with the TP too). [Less]
