We arrived at this hotel about 12 hours after we planned because our flight to Leeds Bradford Airport aborted its landing at the last minute and diverted to Liverpool. High winds blowing across the
runway became so strong they were outside the operating parameters of the aircraft.
The night staff at hie in Wakefield were good enough to check us in even though we spent the first night at another hotel beside Liverpool Airport and our room was ready when we arrived after an early morning journey across northern England by train.
We had booked a double room but were supplied with a triple containing three single beds. We thought about asking for a change but were very tired. The purpose of our trip was to visit my mother in law in hospital so we had a short rest and went on our way.
When we returned late in the evening and went to bed we found the mattresses to be uncomfortable. We checked out but as circumstances at the hospital had changed we decided to stay an extra night so checked in again.
On this occasion we were supplied with a double room as requested but once again we found the mattress uncomfortable.
Both rooms, however, were spotlessly clean and definitely a credit to the housekeeping staff. The quality of both shower rooms was also impressive.
Breakfast was the usual selection at Holiday Inn Express of sausages, scrambled eggs and a choice of continental items ranging from yoghurt to pain au chocolat.
The staff were helpful and pleasant but we really would have to think again before staying at this hotel because of the mattresses which is a pity because it has a great deal going for it in other ways. [Less]
