One of the advantages of booking a Holiday Inn express stay is that it includes a breakfast in the price as opposed to the other hotel chain options, which should be a benefit and a great help to
start your morning.
However, on both mornings of my stay many of the options of food and cutlery had run out and staff did not attend to the serving area at any time while I was there to check on it. As I work in the tourism industry and understand the level of service that should be provided, I politely asked the staff at reception if they could replenish the serving dishes and areas that had run out. On one morning I was told there wasn’t any compote that was in a state to be served! I could only conclude from that, that it was frozen, which is fine but why had more not been taken out earlier in the morning to defrost so it would be ready?
I witnessed a member of staff, who was asked for more forks, hand pick a few dirty ones from ‘out the back’ which were waiting to go into a dishwasher (the ‘staff only’ doors to the back were wide open for all to see the rubbish bins etc) and proceed upstairs. A few minutes later she returned downstairs with the same bunch and replenished the cutlery tray. Can only assume she handwashed them!
The ‘fresh’ fruit bowl was a nice white ceramic deep bowl, however it was positioned out of eye shot on top of a shelf and therefore the fruit was not visible and not noticed by anyone. When I pulled the bowl down to look inside the fruit was not looking it’s best or inviting!
Overall very disappointed with this part of the stay when it’s such a simple thing to get right. [Less]
