I travel to Chicago at least once a year and found the hotel and room was clean and basic with no frills. Although the ceiling was high, the small room did feel a little cramped with a queen bed.
Rooms definitely were not spacious but I think that might be typical of Chicago. The queen bed was comfortable to get a good night's rest. I was at the end of the hall so it was pretty quiet and I didn't hear other guests talking in the hallway. The hotel is located half a block from a mediocre pizza place and 2 block from a CVS. It has ambiance in terms of history of it's renovation into its current form, but I think over-payed a bit for what you got. Maybe that's just downtown Chicago though, too. There was no pool or gym.
