Outstanding Guest Service
By CWeir
I would recommend this Hotel to anyone wishing to have a restful experience. The staff were friendly and professional and helpful in every way. The breakfast offerings were plentiful and tasty. My [More] husband and I will be looking for opportunities to return to Cedar Rapids and we will always stay at this property. [Less]
All in all a good experience
By megscolli
My boyfriend and I were road tripping and we planned a stay at this hotel for one night along the way. We arrived late, around 1:30AM, for check in. When we arrived we found a "Guest Service [More] Attendant is away from the desk tending to the needs of other guests. Thank you for your patience." After driving 7 hours of driving, we patiently waited for 30 minutes before someone came out from the back to assist us with our check in. This was moderately irritating to me because there was no way to get in contact with the attendant. I digress, the attendant was apologetic and kind while he assisted us with our check in. We were put into a room on the 3rd floor. We decided to take the stairs after the elevator opened, we stepped on, and it dropped another inch or so and made a loud "clunk" noise.. Maybe I'm crazy but I am not a fan of sketchy elevators. Anyways we carried our bags to the 3rd floor and went to our newly renovated room- which were lovely and spacious- lots of storage and lights in different areas around the room. My only complaint about the room is that the sheets were sub-par quality and were pilling and rough which caused me a bit of discomfort BUT I know that I am picky and that isn't anything the hotel can control. We got rested and woke up early to see what the hotel's breakfast would offer. It was disappointing to say the least. I eat a well balanced gluten free diet and didn't find that there were many appetizing options for me. Some sugary cereal, instant oatmeal, yogurt, bananas and apples, the powdered eggs, and some Canadian bacon. There were loads of options for people who don't follow gluten free diets- some biscuits and gravy, waffles, and all sorts of different breads/pastries. I am not a fan of the powdered eggs at hotels and the Canadian bacon was a weird grayish color that was floating in about a half inch of water. So I opted for the healthiest thing outside of those that I could find - the instant oatmeal and a banana. The breakfast was worst part to me because we had to take extra time out of our trip to stop so I could get something with a bit of protein. Although, I understand this is also not necessarily the hotel's fault but the little cheese omelettes as well as the regular bacon that are served at other HI locations are usually good enough for me. Regardless, all in all I would say it was a good experience but if you are a picky or GF eater be sure to plan extra time to grab food somewhere other than the hotel. [Less]
