Kalamazoo Travel Guide
Kick up your heels and relax in this small university town, just minutes from our Holiday Inn Express® hotels in Kalamazoo. Before you know it you'll be doing barrel rolls in an Air Zoo flight simulator or sipping a local wheat beer in a casual Haymarket tavern.
From our Kalamazoo hotels, head off into the wild blue yonder-virtually, that is-at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, where vintage barnstormers and military aircraft share space with high-tech anti-gravity machines and flight simulators. Our hotels in Kalamazoo are near the downtown Kalamazoo Art Institute, a collection of delicate watercolors, earthy ceramics and art glass pieces by local artists. Western Michigan University draws alumni and students with energetic football games. If you can't score a ticket, shop for the school's distinctive brown-and-gold Bronco logo-wear and listen for the rallying cry of "Go Broncos!"
Clustered around the Western Michigan campus is a good selection of cafes and restaurants, many of them reasonably priced for student budgets. Our hotels in Kalamazoo also put you near the downtown shops and restaurants of the revitalized Haymarket Historic District, a turn-of-the-20th-century neighborhood that was the site of the city's first hay auctions. Look for innovative menus packed with fresh produce and fruits from nearby orchards and West Michigan artisanal cheeses and meats. The Haymarket's eclectic dining spots morph into lively bars after hours, when the sounds of cool blues and indie rock spill out onto the streets.
Book a room at our Holiday Inn Express Kalamazoo hotels to discover the city's little-known treasures, including a historic Art Deco downtown. Pick up a free self-guided walking-tour map from the downtown Kalamazoo visitor center and take a stroll past vintage downtown buildings like the 1929 American National Bank, with ornamental archways and a vaulted atrium, and the 1931 City Hall.

Overall very enjoyable stay
I particularly appreciated the "grab and go" selections for breakfast. No nasty handles on a buffet. Also hand sanitizer stations on the walls in convenient places. I particularly appreciate that my[More] little dog was welcome. It's been my experience that many Holiday Inn Express Hotels are not pet friendly.[Less]
