Upon arrival the hotel exterior was fairly clean. The lobby was way too warm and some flies were buzzing around. After check in, I went to my room and found the there was no Jacuzzi Suite in there.
I had booked this room months ago. The room they first gave me had been smoked in. I had to go back downstairs only to find out they had over booked the hotel, but cleaned a Jacuzzi Suite and moved the people out of that room and gave it to me after an hour of cleaning. I was booked for a 7 night stay.
I noticed the pool was very small and no hot tub. After a few nights I also found out there was no guest laundry. There was a marching contest above me every morning...ughh. Had to drive into downtown La Porte to do laundry.
Otherwise aside from a few unprofessional staff members with tattoos and no uniforms, they were friendly and the Jacuzzi Suite room was very comfortable . The hotel website was much more "glossy " and inviting than the actual hotel.
The good news is, the Blue Heron Restaurant across a very busy street has amazing food and atmosphere. Not the best HIE I have stayed at, but not the worst either. The location and surrounding areas are a bit .."run down", but not a deal breaker. They need to add a guest laundry, a real business center and a nice spa/hot tub...some uniforms for the staff would be a big plus also. The cookies were good! I probably wouldn't stay there again, Michigan City isn't far and has much nicer hotels and restaurants. If you are not as picky as I am, and must stay in La Porte you will be satisfied. [Less]
