Featured Chapel Hill Hotels

Writers and artists call this leafy, picturesque hamlet home. But beneath the folksy facade lies a vibrant university town and high-tech industry. Book a stay in our Holiday Inn Express® Chapel Hill hotels and discover why locals call this "the Southern part of heaven."

Be a guest at our hotels in Chapel Hill to tour the historic University of North Carolina campus. Founded in 1795, the university sprawls over a rolling green landscape shaded with oaks. At the heart of the campus is the Old Well, where the UNC football team gathers on game days. Nearby is the 1851 Playmakers' Theater, an elegant Greek Revival building unceremoniously used as a horse stable during the Civil War. Explore the galaxies at Morehead Planetarium, on the campus' east end. Basketball is practically a religion in these parts; when the Carolina Tarheels are playing, the Dean Dome campus arena rumbles. Alongside the UNC campus, Franklin Street has a welcoming, low-rise appeal, with vintage coffee shops and affordable cafes. It doesn't cost a dime to get around town: public buses serving Chapel Hill and the university are free.

From the comfort of our Chapel Hill hotels, you can dine at some of the region's favorite restaurants, many of them reasonably priced for student budgets. A local landmark is Mama Dip's, which has been serving up Southern soul food for more than 30 years. Just off Franklin Street is Cat's Cradle, the legendary rock club that showcased stars like Nirvana and Pearl Jam before they were famous.

Book a stay at our Chapel Hill hotels and get caught up in the energy of university life, whether you're touring the historic campus, attending a big-time ball game or taking advantage of the college's engaging roster of free public events.

Friendly staff, feels like home!
By Frequent traveler
I was greeted by Gwen, she is always smiling, friendly, and treats guests like family. After a long drive she makes you feel relaxed and at home. She should be the face of Holiday Inn Express, given [More] a promotion to travel and train all front desk employees. The breakfast is always fresh, stocked, and the dining area is clean. The cleaning staff leaves your room spotless and smells wonderful. Feels like home here!! [Less]
Convenient location and free breakfast
By Tonya41
This is the third or fourth time I have stayed at this hotel and have been happy every stay. I even looked at other hotels this time and still chose this one. I normally come for doctor appointments [More] at Duke and it is one exit down from that office and I can be there in five minutes without having to get back on the interstate. [Less]

My husband and I both really enjoyed the sleep. The mattress was quality made. We now hope to find one for home that sleeps that well. Staff was courteous and polite. Our room and the hotel was [More] quite clean and smelled fresh. Everything we needed was provided. [Less]
Great Updates at a Great Location
By cullowade
I've stayed here before because of the great location, but with the new room upgrades and the reliable service and good pricing, this is a great option. It is especially convenient if you've got a [More] meeting at the new Centennial Campus of NCSU. It is super convenient. [Less]
Staff and accomadations
By bonnie
I really appreciated the attitude of the clerk who checked me in. She was very friendly and efficient. I was tired after my drive into Raleigh but her "happy" personality actually was refreshing. My [More] room was clean and quite comfortable. It was nice to have such a "clean" and well maintained room. Upon my leaving, I appreciated the rapid checkout option and the clerk on duty was very friendly as I was leaving. His attitude was very "upbeat" for early in the morning! He made me smile as I left the hotel. Over all, I had a really good experience and would stay again as well as recommend it to others! [Less]

Raleigh high rise
By Ken3004
Spent several days at conference in Raleigh and stayed at Holiday Inn Downtown. It appeared to be converted from another hotel, awkward entrance for cars, but easy parking, and cost to park [More] equivalent to a parking garage. Breakfast was not included in the price. I was there for conference not a hotel experience so it was OK, but I don't like heights, so 18th floor not my favorite place to be, but OK. Our room was across from elevator shaft and next to a laundry mat on the 18th floor, which I was surprised they had. It seemed safe and within easy walking distance of some good restaurants and places to visit- the NC Archives and two state museums, as well as the state capitol Free shuttle service around the city was nearby, offered by the city of Raleigh.
