Guests of our hotels in Alexandria take to the streets in true colonial fashion-on foot. Stroll the residential blocks north and south of King Street, down cobblestone lanes lined with Federal-style homes. In a day's wandering you'll pass Robert E. Lee's childhood home, George Washington's house of prayer at Christ Church and the Carlyle House, setting for intense negotiations over taxation between British officials and colonial governors. The Alexandria Black History Museum celebrates the contributions of African Americans toward the growth of the city. Pick up a free walking-tour pamphlet here of the city's historical African American landmarks.

Local artisans blow glass, spin pottery and invite the curious to watch in open studios at the Torpedo Factory. King Street's turn-of-the-century brick storefronts are now high-end boutiques and antique shops. Guests of our Alexandria hotels will find a variety of cuisines to choose from along King Street, though the kiosks and stalls of the Torpedo Factory Food Pavilion easily satisfy with pizza slices, cheese-stuffed Salvadoran corn cakes and freshly blended smoothies. Gadsby's Tavern has been sating the appetites of Alexandrians with hearty steaks and shepherd's pie since the late 1700s. Legend has it that George Washington's favorite dish was Gadsbys' succulent roast duck.

Stay in our Holiday Inn Express® hotels in Alexandria to explore American history. Our Alexandria hotels are a short drive from Mount Vernon, the beloved home of George and Martha Washington. Mostly good
By Christinem
Everyone was super friendly when we first arrived, but then seemed to ignore us the rest of the time. No big deal, but I did notice that happened to several other people when I was reading other [More] reviews on this hotel. Rooms are tiny, but comfortable. Location is really the best part of the hotel. Felt safe here with my family. Starbucks is a plus. Very clean. Elevators are a bit creepy, but got the job done. Be aware though, the walls are EXTREMELY thin. There was a party next door to our room with loud music and laughing at midnight, and the hotel security can only tell these rude people to be quiet so many times. We were on the ninth floor, and could still here a homeless person from the park across the street ranting about injustice at night. [Less]

Stayed for my cousins wedding

The wedding block was full, but they quickly worked with me to adjust the price to the proper amount. The room was big, clean, and had everything I needed: Coffee maker, fridge, etc. [Less]
