The city of Alpena Bike Path - Approximately 18.5 miles long, the path travels through several of Alpena's scenic city parks and beaches along the Thunder Bay River and Lake Huron. Parking is available at several sites along the path. An excellent tour of the city by foot, roller blade, or bike.

Alpena has the nation's only roadside dinosaur park, Dinosaur Gardens. Also,the only fresh water national marine sanctuary, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. It is has seven lighthouses within an hour's travel and was the1990 filming location for Die Hard 2. It is also the home of 3 official Dark Sky Preserves, Rockport State Recreation Area, Thompsons Harbor and Negweg.
