Mountain vacations originated from Western Europe and North America, and have recently become more popular in the Chinese tourism market. Mountain resorts rely on natural resources and the concept of mountain vacation encourages people to return to the natural world, playing amongst nature and breathing in fresh air, far away from the urban cities.

Covering a total area of 2,000 square km, the Changbai Mountains National Reserve sits on the border between China and North Korea. The mountain range extends from the Northeast Chinese provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning to the North Korean provinces of Ryanggang and Chagang. Most peaks exceed 2,000 meters in height, with the highest mountain being Changbai Mountain.

Changbaishan Ski Resort is surrounded by the dense forests of the Changbaishan Natureeserve, which further enhances the beauty of the resort. Changbaishan Ski Resort has two Alpine pistes totalling 3,000 meters, each with an intermediate-level slope. The ski slopes are engineered by Canadian company Ecosign and covers 6.5 square km with 43 runs. It is designed to be the largest ski area in China.
