Enjoy a real honest-to-goodness old-time soda from the soda fountain at the Cardinal Drug Store. The back bar of Cardinal Drug dates to 1914, and the counter portion with soda fountain to 1937. There are now less than 40 genuine soda fountains left in the state of Kansas.

Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum. Osa, from Chanute, and Martin from nearby Independence, shared a lifetime of adventures together. This small, but splendid museum gives us a fascinating look at their lives and accomplishments, as well as featuring extraordinary artifacts from Africa and the South Seas.

Walk across the Austin Bridge at the Sante Fa Park constructed in 1872. The 160-foot bowstring arch design spanned the Neosho River east of what is now Chanute and now part of the National Register of Historic Places.
