Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very comfortable and relaxing stay We stayed for one night before joining our cruise at Southampton Docks. The hotel was ideally placed, marvellously quiet and restful after a long journey and the staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. The evening menu in the restaurant had good variety and the meals were delicious. A very clean and comfortable room where we felt warm and cosy. The hotel really exceeded our expectations for the amazing price and we left after a great breakfast, which catered for specific dietary needs, feeling that we had already started our holiday. Thank you! Would definitely use again and recommend. 28 March 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing dinner followed by disappointing replacement As my second stay in less than a month, I felt the evening meal this time fell way below standards. Checking in and so forth were fine but my main meal of cod with potato was not tasty. The fish had too many small bones, the skin had been left on and worst off all there was far too much wholegrain mustard in the mashed potato rendering it inedible. For a dish costing nearly £15 this was unacceptable. When asked how my meal was, I gave the staff my feedback so I was allowed a second choice. I went for the rump steak but that was little better. The steak was supposed to be well done but looked rather black in areas. Then first piece I put in my mouth was very chewy to the extent that I could not eat it. In all I left several pieces of gristle on my plate and what I could eat wasn't particularly tasty and pretty chewy. It was very low quality meat and with a price tag normally in excess of £15, a bit of a rip off. When staff came to ask how it was, I said it was adequate and okay since the fries were edible but they did not stop to listen more and walked away as this was already my replacement main course. Moreover glitches in the hotel system meant my key card failed twice during my one night stay. Not a great experience. 26 March 2015
