Towering over Dover and looking out across the English Channel towards France is the impressive Dover Castle, just a 16-minute drive from the hotel. You can take a guided tour that explores the castle's hidden wartime tunnels and the impressive Great Tower. The castle was built in the 12th century, but the Roman lighthouse dates to AD 50 and is said to be one of the oldest buildings in Britain.

Port Lympne Reserve is Kent's largest wild animal park. It is located only 6 miles from the hotel. The huge 600-acre site is home to more than 700 animals including the largest herd of black rhino in the UK, western lowland gorillas, Kent's largest tower of giraffe, tigers, lions, leopards, bears and so much more.

Just a half-hour drive from the hotel, Dover's iconic white cliffs are part of the British national psyche. During both world wars they were part of the front line and as such have become a symbol of homecoming for soldiers and travellers. The cliff face reaches up as high as 110 metres and on a clear day you can see across to France. Stop off for lunch by the water at the Coastguard Pub.

Driving to France? Remember that all vehicles need to carry a high-visibility reflective jacket, a warning triangle, and a breathalyzer. Make sure you're fully prepared by visiting The AA Shop at the Eurotunnel. Don't forget that France is an hour ahead of the UK and that cars drive on the opposite side of the road.
