Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor management experience I had a family member scheduled for a medical procedure at Emory Hospital on February 9-10 which necessitated our visit. The Holiday Inn Express-Emory was listed on Emory Hospital's website as a recommended place to stay. I made the reservation on February 6 and was told that we would receive the discounted rate for guests whose family members were patients at the Hospital. Because my family member did not see the doctor until Monday, February 9, I asked the reservationist if we could provide the necessary documentation showing that she was a patient on February 9 even though we were checking in on February 8. The reservationist stated that this would not be a problem. When we presented the letter from Emory on February 9, the manager on duty stated that we would receive the discounted rate for that night but that we would not receive it for February 8 because we did not provide the letter at check in. I explained to the manager that the reservationist told me that we could provide it on February 9. The manager responded that the reservationist was mistaken, that the hotel policy required the letter to be presented at check in, and that she would not honor the discounted rate. The manager gave me the number to call for customer service but said that there was simply nothing that she could do to rectify the situation. The manager was condescending and completely unhelpful throughout this process. When I asked if I could speak to the general manager she stated that she was training the general manager and that there was no one else I could speak with. I called the customer service number while standing at the front desk. After explaining the situation, the representative asked to speak with the manager on duty. I was subsequently told by the representative that I would receive a check from Holiday Inn Express for the difference between the discounted rate and the standard rate instead of simply having the difference made on my bill. Our experience with the manager added significant stress to what was already an extremely stressful time period for my family. The hotel’s overall accommodations, proximity to Emory, and hospitality of the other staff members would make the hotel an ideal place to stay when we have to return to Emory Hospital in the coming weeks for future procedures. However, we will not be staying at this location because of the manner in which we were treated, nor will we recommend this hotel to others. We also plan to notify Emory Hospital of this situation in case they want to reconsider listing this location as one of their recommended hotels. February 13, 2015
