Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JMichael1968 Comfortable Stay Before Ultra Marathon
The typical clean, friendly Holiday Inn Express. I stayed here the night before a 50 mile ultra marathon. I was comfortable and rested well before the race.

Decent hotel. Fitness center had a nautilus type machine, which is better than many I stay at. Little dated in the overall appearance of the hotel, though.

I'm always grateful for dog-friendly hotels, bc the majority of any traveling I do is for competing my dog. They did charge a pet fee, but it was fairly reasonable. Big open grassy area behind the hotel was great for playing with my dog. Also a fenced in fair grounds is very close by which is also great for dog walking. The room was not completely dark at night w/ the lights off, but seeing as I always seem to end up with a light pole shining right in my window, it was a big improvement from other places I have stayed. And the pillows were by far the best I have had of any hotel in this price range. I slept better in this hotel bc of these things than I do in most others. The service from the staff was excellent. When I checked-in on Friday, the desk clerk told me breakfast was at 5:30 (which it is during the week). When we got down there btwn 6-6:30 Saturday morning the staff told us breakfast wasn't until 7 on weekends, but there were regular cold things out so we were fine. They actually went ahead and started bringing the warm options out early for us. And when we came down Sunday morning they were already setting the warm options out early so they'd be available for us again. I thought that was very considerate and over -the-top of them to do that. This was not the closest hotel to where I was competing my dog, but the area and hotel made it more than worth the bit of extra driving I had to do each day. I will stay here again.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by dhall0252 Hot tub out of service
We have always stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Kendallville when visiting family there. They were having issues with the hot tub last year when we were there, which I had forgotten about until we arrived to find the hot tub was completely out of service. The staff was great and the gentleman working the front desk said they had someone working on it. Unfortunately they were not able to fix it and actually messed something else up that required closing the pool all together. I know this is no fault of the staff, however I do think it is time for major repairs and renovations for this Holiday Inn Express, not just the pool and hot tub, but wallpaper, paint, carpet, furniture, and all could do for an upgrade.
