While normally a stay at any Holiday Inn property would be a pleasant experience, this particular property needs its staffed trained better and the building systems updated.
The property is undergoing renovation and while the upgrades and changes are nice and the overall appearance is to IHG standards, the staff needs to be aware of what the customer experience is all about.
We arrived at this hotel around 3:00 PM and were greeted in the normal manner. Our room was ready upon our arrival and the check in process was painless.
When we arrived in our room, we noticed that the tempurture was above 78* in the room and the thermostat was set at 70. The humidity level in the room was also above acceptable levels. We had noticed that the hallway leading to the rooms was at a very comfortable tempurture and was noticeably cooler than our room. We stayed in the room only long enough to drop off our bags and then we left. On our way out, we mentioned to the desk person that we had a concern with the Air conditioner in the room. We asked them to check it out and call us if we needed to change rooms or if this was just due to air conditioner being off prior to our arrival.
We left the hotel and returned around 01:00 AM. The room had cooled off some but had not reached the setting of 72 we had set the controls to. The humidity level was still quite high but, we decided we would be ok for just one night. The following morning at 08:30, we were awakened by what could only be described as drilling and hammering on the wall our head board was attached to.
We listened to this noise for about 10 minutes and decided we endured enough. We promptly cleaned up and prepared to check out. Upon our exit from the room, we had to climb over piles of empty boxes as we made our way to the elevator.
I have travelled all over the world and stayed at many IHG properties. I have even stayed at properties that were in the middle of renovations. I have never seen anyone be assigned a room that was next to a room that was being worked on or even on the same floor as construction was being performed. This is just common sense!
This hotel may turn out to be an acceptable IHG property. They may even be planning an upgrade to the climate control system. But they will never see us as customers at this facility again.

Let me start with the good things. Great personnel at check in. Then things went down hill. We had called the hotel (direct) in advance and requested a first floor room due to physical limitations. When we arrived we discovered that no first floor rooms were available due to construction. Had we been so advised when we called we would have made other arrangements. We got to our room unpacked and then discovered that the TV did not work. So we had to pack up and move to another room. The internet also was not working.
Every HIE I have ever stayed in has had cookies for arriving guests and also has cinnamon rolls at breakfast. Neither of these were available at this Holiday Inn Express. You would think since they have construction going on they would make an extra effort to make guests comfortable or at least be up to standard.
This HIE was just not up to the standard of every other HIE we have stayed in.

The location was convenient for highway access, had great parking, was safe, quiet and had a great breakfast offering. But, there were so many issues with building renovations that impacted our stay. Extremely poor wireless access and no wired access. Furniture stored in hallways, painter's tape on walls, no artwork in the room, poor functioning toilet and no bathroom exhaust fans.
