I have stayed in several hotels while they have been under construction and have had great experiences so when I arrived I had high expectations. Unfortunately, they quickly diminished. They were doing install work around the check in area so the lady quickly checked me in while the workmen stood around waiting for us to complete check in. She was very brisk and not welcoming. The area they gave her to do her job left no room for the patron to fill out the necessary check in form or put anything like a wallet or keys. It was just uncomfortable all around.
I went to my room, which was at first fine. But then I noticed that there was a decent sized bug in the bathroom that I thought was dead. I had a phone call before I could come take care of the "dead" bug but it was gone! I came to the realization much later that it was most likely a cockroach! At the time I attributed it to the construction. Also, the screen on the window was falling off like someone had tried to pop it out.
The next morning, I was doing some work on the living room table and noticed and ant. I went to wash my hands and noticed many more by the sink and mirror.
I went downstairs and asked to speak with a manager and was informed she had made a bank run and that if I could wait for 30 minutes she would be available. I did not have 30 minutes to wait due to a meeting so I told the person at the front desk about my issue. He apologized and moved me immediately to a new room. I asked the manager to call me and left my phone number. No call.
In my new room, I realized that while it had no bugs, the shower was full of mold.
My plan was to speak with the manager as I left for the airport but when I got downstairs, there was no one at the front desk because she was sitting in the breakfast area. When she saw me pause, she started to get up but I decided to just call the manager once my flight landed.
I did call and she was not there. I left a message and am still waiting for a call back 3 days later...
I travel every other week and typically stay with IHG brands. I am not sure if I am more disappointed in the accommodations or the lack of care and follow up from the manager, either way, I will not stay here nor will I recommend this hotel.

We were very happy with the size and layout of our room, as well as the really comfy king bed with pillow top mattress. We spent two nights here and found the location close enough to walk downtown to Market Square, the River Walk and The Alamo. Some less fit may find this a challenge especially in the heat, but taxis are not expensive - $5 downtown. Renovations are being undertaken on the 2nd floor but this did not affect us at all - we were on the 4th floor.
Breakfast was very simple, and on the first day they had one packaged muffin that suited my dietary requirements that I had mentioned on booking. However, the second morning, they had none left, so an apple was it! The staff were courteous and helpful, but we found that the standard of dress, demeanour and professionalism was much lower than in our travels to similar hotels (and less expensive ones) around the world. As non-Americans, this puzzles us, as we have found similar standards of behaviour in other customer service roles also at a lower standard than our previous experiences. We didn't see the same staff members twice, so different staff each day.
Overall we found this hotel to be very suitable for our needs, our room was clean, and we felt that with the size of the room and its location, we had good value for money. Wifi had to be refreshed each day (which they didn't tell us on checkin), but worked well in our 4th floor room. We are happy to overlook some anomolies, such as the mowing and whipper snipping being done at 9.30-10.00pm!!
