Face it - hotels can be hotels - especially across a similar spectrum. They can become anonymous and almost repetitive across brands and can be difficult to differentiate. Except for staff.
The young lady at the front desk (Ann Marie?) of this property was just outstanding. A truly wonderful asset, and someone who should really consider hospitality as a career. She was professional, charming and personable, funny, responsive, helpful, and had a welcoming smile that really made the stay start off on the right foot. We had some short conversations and had a few people and locales that crossed paths in one of those "it's a small world" ways.
The front desk staff are often the first, last, and sometimes only line of defense and can make or break a stay for a guest as soon as they walk in the door. This young lady made the Sarasota HI Express a real standout property and set the tone for a great stay.
The room was nicely appointed, comfortable, and clean as was the rest of the property. The breakfast was fine (with a fresh automatic pancake maker that I need to get for home), the atrium lobby was welcoming, had two PCs and a printer available for guests, and the pitcher of fresh citrus water was inviting and welcoming.
But I have come to expect similar at other HI Express properties. What makes the difference here happens at the front desk. Thank you Ann Marie (??). We were strangers in a strange and previously un-visited place - and you made us feel welcome and at home.

Would definitely recommend. I had my 13 year granddaughter traveling with me and she remarked a couple of times how much she liked the hotel and how safe she felt. Definitely one of the friendliest hotel staffs I have come in content with over the last few trip. They all deserve a pat on the back.

I checked into this hotel after a long day driving.
For some reason, the room I reserved was changed(according to the desk person) from a king suite to a double queen room.
I was told it was changed by the computer. I was asked if I wanted ground floor or 4th floor( ground floor being noisiest)
After I explained that I had rented a suite, I was given a room on the 3rd floor... the employee noticed I was tired and she suggested going up and resting. I went into my room and laid down for a few hours. The toilet was running. I went out to my car to get a few shirts on hangers that I left before going to the desk to complain about the toilet. I had parked my car in back. I found that my garaged kept, fairly expensive car only to find that someone with a wheel chair left had backed into its front bumper. At that point, I forgot about the running toilet and called the dealership to get my car repaired. Later that night, after I turned off the water to the continuously running and flushing toilet, the dogs in the next room started barking.
Why would the employee put me in a room next to dogs knowing that I needed a good nights sleep?
The faucet in the bathroom was being held on one side only and moved freely when I used it.
I have stayed at this hotel probably a half dozen times just in the last year. Before I noticed that the cleanliness of the bathroom was no up to standard. The last few stays, I have noticed that the furnishings and room conditions have deteriorated. I can't speak about the other rooms, but if I am paying top dollar to stay in a suite, then it should be fairly nice.
I was recognized as being a "gold" member, but I don't feel as if I got any better service.
Oh, and I opted for the one and only time to take the nuts and water over the points.
NOT worth a dime. Cheap bottled water and really bad mixed nuts#which half of the bag was sun flower seeds#
It is what I would expect if I stayed at a cheap hotel across the street.
Finally, putting a #not allowed to post# hold on my CC for a week for incidentals as if I was staying in a more expensive hotel was too much. If I wanted anything, then I would've paid cash like anytime before.
Never mind the $1000 bill to repair my car.
I did not enjoy my stay. I did not rest well.
Needless to say, after 3 years of staying at this hotel, this was my last visit.
I would upload the video I took of the poor conditions, but alas, it is larger than 5mb and I don't feel the need to edit it to fit even if I could upload it to this page
