We had great difficulty on arrival at Holiday Inn Express because they had no record of our booking. Reception said they had received no notification of it from Holiday Extras. The booking reference we received from Holiday Extras was of no use. We had to go online and with considerable difficulty print out the email confirmation of our booking, which the hotel then accepted. Luckily there was a room available, as it was getting late and we had a very early flight the next day. So don't rely on Holiday Extras - contact the hotel to be sure.

Arrived near midnight by airport shuttle bus. Only one person was on duty at reception. I was first off the bus and was first to check in. There was a problem with my credit card and check in took longer than expected. There were several people waiting in line behind me from the same shuttle bus and I would not have enjoyed being at the end of that line.
I was pleasantly surprised by the overall cleanliness and modern feel to the hotel. Signage in corridors could be better and I wondered if it would be adequate in the case of an emergency evacuation.
There was an internet connection problem but I did not follow it up because it was late.
Had a good sleep in a comfortable bed with choice of pillows (a nice touch). Shower was excellent with generous towels provided.
There was an excellent choice for breakfast and staff were friendly. Nobody checked my room number or whether I was really a guest.
Despite a couple of hiccups I found this a pleasant overnight stay and would definitely recommend the hotel for guests requiring an overnight stay before or after a flight in or out of Heathrow.

The staff here just dont get it. Have gone to many Holiday Inns in Europe and generally staff are really friendly, attentive and want to help. Here whilst not unfriendly they looked still concerned something was going to go wrong. They were inattentive - bar staff took food
