Upon arrival with my family, an unprofessionally dressed young girl checked us in, after waiting on another customer before us. This customer was switching rooms because it had been 30 days since his last room switch. Apparently he was quite familiar with the staff and this was not unusual to them. I had no idea Holiday Inn Express was a residential hotel. This individual was passed out in front of the hotel when we got there, then playing loud bass from his car next to ours in the evening. We attempted to use the pool. There were no towels, there were ants, garbage and chipped paint in the pool area. In the "bathroom" by the pool, there were pool chemicals on the floor, and various tools and assorted other debris on and surrounding the toilet. Needless to say, we didn't go swimming. We could not wait to leave the following morning as the clientele and the staff caused us some alarm. Not what I have ever expected from my years of staying at both holiday inn and holiday inn express. My ihg membership never prepared me for this experience.

upon entering the lobby we went to the front desk where at first there was no one there, then someone came out on the phone and proceeded to talk to someone that they knew for what seemed like at least a minute. (it was said, "ill have to call you right back") after check in we went to our room, to to our delight it was nice and cool. we went to get some ice from the second floor machine and low and behold the room was empty! I then proceeded to go down stairs and stopped by the front desk and tell them thank you for telling me that the ice machine on my floor was non-existent! but i could not because after waiting for minutes no-one was there! meanwhile waiting in the hot sticky lobby.
Had a good night sleep the rooms were nice, fridge worked, no issues the bathroom looked a bit worn out for being a "newer" hotel. And on to the next day for check out, bill was under door, to me that means i don't have to check out at the desk, so we leave the keys in the room and upon exiting the building we are yelled at from behind the desk, "what room!" three times. I said i don't know 230 something... just was odd and uncomfortable. all in all not a horrible place, just non existent service. Which in my opinion is more important that anything else besides cleanliness.
