As a cultural and scientific hub, Newcastle upon Tyne has reinvented itself into a cultural hot spot built for the modern era. This makes it a fascinating destination, where an industrialist past and Victorian architecture intersect with trendy coffee shops, innovative art displays and experimental theatre. Discover all this intriguing city has to offer when you stay in one of our well-appointed Newcastle Upon Tyne boutique hotels.

Once considered a sleepy corner of Northeast England, Newcastle first became a thriving city during the Industrial Revolution. Explore this history and even more at the Stephenson Railway Museum and the Great North Museum, which also contains fossils and mummies. Or, if it's art you crave, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, the Hatton Gallery and the Shipley Art Gallery provide an ample dose of interactive and modern displays. For kids and kids at heart, the one of a kind National Centre for Children's Books is an excellent look at this beloved art form, both classic and new.

For a breath of fresh air, stroll along the River Tyne, or simply take a walking tour around this highly pedestrian friendly city. On your wanderings, be sure to stop by Northumberland Street, the Old George Yard, Grainger Market, Eldon Square, the Metro Centre or the Royal Quays for a good shopping session. From high-end boutiques to department and outlet stores, the Newcastle shopping scene is undoubtedly one of the best in the Northeast.

When the street lamps light up and your stomach starts rumbling, you'll be spoiled for choice in terms of cuisine. Italian bistros, Asian buffets, chic cafes and wine bars offering elegant nibbles are all just a short stroll away. Combine your culinary adventures with a trip to a pub or club in the Bigg Market, Central Station, Quayside, Ouseburn or Jesmond areas to sample the local world famous beer or a trendy cocktail. Alternatively, a night at the theatre is always an excellent option. The Theatre Royal, Journal Tyne Theatre, Live Theatre and People's Theatre always have something good going, from experimental shows to stand-up comedy and more.

As a port city, Newcastle upon Tyne is well connected to the rest of the UK by boat, plane, bus and train. Make the most of your time in this growing and vibrant region when you book into a boutique Newcastle upon Tyne hotel, where attentive staff are prepared with local knowledge and a host of tips. With comfortable, well-appointed rooms and a prime location, you'll be sure to have a trip for the ages when you stay with Hotel Indigo. Book your Newcastle home away from home today.

Perfect

Excellent car park. Excellent location, not far from Quayside and recommend Gusto for meal (join their dining club for discount online). Reception staff friendly welcoming knowledgeable, always [More] helpful. Room immaculate has everything you could need. Breakfast extensive with great choice, great staff who are on the ball and tables kept clean and ready. Lovely quiet hotel, rooms soundproofed, barely hear a thing, don't get that usual hotel banging door syndrome - in fact feels like you are the only ones in hotel as rooms are that quiet. Taxis available from reception, however walk to most venues is only 20 minutes. Taxi to Newcastle City Hall on our last visit only £5 and there in a couple of mins. We visit this hotel regularly, as a hotel it has everything we need however what it has more than others are the staff - pure team effort, they all work to make sure we have a pleasant, happy and relaxing stay. Our number 1 choice for Newcastle (we have been to every other main hotel in Newcastle/Gateshead). Thank you to everyone. [Less]

Away from the noise but close to the town, this is an excellent hotel for a couple of nights. Only problem we had related to guests rather than the Hotel, with noises from the next room (we think) [More] from 1:30 up to 4:00 in the morning. [Less]

Glad we chose the Plaza
By Dollyp63
At first we thought hotel was a bit far from the main areas as it looked to be tucked away behind the train station but in fact when you find your feet it is in a great location to the city centre. [More] The hotel is as you would expect very clean and modern, the staff are all lovely too. We did not use the spa facilities on this occasion although look forward to going back in the future and doing so. We did use the restaurant and the gin bar which for us is unusual as we do not usually dine or drink in the hotels we stay in. The restaurant was lovely, staff a dream. There is a new Sunday lunch menu which goes on until 9.30pm so is there for evening meal and believe me it is well worth trying it, I have raved about it to everyone, the quality, the price £14.95 for two course now by any standard that is reasonable but for a hotel of this quality it’s fantastic, please do not change this it’s worth keeping. The gin bar on site is an additional bonus especially these days as everyone is drinking gin, obviously other tipples are available. Once again pricing here is better than expected for a hotel. We had a deuce queen room which was very comfortable and a great size, free internet access which actually works, there is a mini bar although we did not use this as we did think this was very overpriced but I suppose it is a convenient thing if you need it. All facilities you will need ie iron, iron board, hair dryer are all supplied as well as bathrobes and slippers. This hotel has done its homework and got 10/10. [Less]
