Once considered a sleepy corner of Northeast England, Newcastle first became a thriving city during the Industrial Revolution. Explore this history and even more at the Stephenson Railway Museum and the Great North Museum, which also contains fossils and mummies. Or, if it's art you crave, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, the Hatton Gallery and the Shipley Art Gallery provide an ample dose of interactive and modern displays. For kids and kids at heart, the one of a kind National Centre for Children's Books is an excellent look at this beloved art form, both classic and new.

For a breath of fresh air, stroll along the River Tyne, or simply take a walking tour around this highly pedestrian friendly city. On your wanderings, be sure to stop by Northumberland Street, the Old George Yard, Grainger Market, Eldon Square, the Metro Centre or the Royal Quays for a good shopping session. From from high end boutiques to department and outlet stores, the Newcastle shopping scene is undoubtedly one of the best in the Northeast.

When the street lamps light up and your stomach starts rumbling, you'll be spoiled for choice in terms of cuisine. Italian bistros, Asian buffets, chic cafes and wine bars offering elegant nibbles are all just a short stroll away. Combine your culinary adventures with a trip to a pub or club in the Bigg Market, Central Station, Quayside, Ouseburn or Jesmond areas to sample the local world famous beer or a trendy cocktail. Alternatively, a night at the theater is always an excellent option. Excellent hotel in useful location
By Jessica
Using the hotel during business stays, my priorities are to make it as much a home away from home as possible. The Indigo makes this really easy. Staff are friendly and helpful no matter what the [More] enquiry and check in is simple and easy. I love the details such as a free newspaper and wake up call, as well as Tuesday evening free in room movies - a creature comfort. In addition, the hotel gym makes it easy to maintain your fitness although some of the equipment needs repair. The rooms themselves are modern, clean and nicely furnished, the shower is always hot and strong! One thing of the main features of the Newcastle Indigo is the Marco Pierre White restaurant. This is really great and has a wide menu, although as a weekly business traveller it doesn't seem to change very often. Breakfast includes a wide range of hot and cold options although I have come to avoid the hot food - it's made fresh (great!) but can take a while (annoying if you're often late out of bed, like me!). Overall wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. [Less]
Good location
By JaneinPen
We love the Hotel Indigo for it's convenience. We would however like to be able to switch off the strip lighting in the bathroom at night. This is because of the glass door from the bathroom which [More] then makes the light shine through. Along with the light that shines from underneath the access door and around it this made the room seem quite light all night. The receptionist did say that she thought there was a switch outside the bathroom. There was another switch next to the light switch but in all honesty we thought this was for the heated towel rail and so did not try it. Next time!! [Less]
Very comfortable stay
By Floracat
We stayed here for a short visit to Newcastle. We were really happy with the hotel - great location, easy check in, clean comfortable room and nice and quiet for a good night's sleep. Breakfast was [More] good too. If we had one criticism, it would be that the bar staff need to be a bit cheerier! We would definitely stay here again. [Less]
Family Weekend Away
By Jules C
From the moment I called up to make a dinner reservation whilst on our way to the hotel, to the time we left, at which point one of the cleaning staff ran the length of the corridor and down to [More] reception to return a comfort blanket belonging to one of our sons' that we had left in the room, the friendliness and service offered by the staff were examplary. The room we chose had two good size double beds and plenty of extra room which was perfect for us and our boys and was very clean and welcoming. A good base for access to the A1, Newcastle, Ponteland, Morpeth, the location was perfect for what we needed. Will definitely use the Holiday Inn, Gosforth Park again in the future. Well done to all the staff for making it a lovely stay. [Less]
Fantastic value fpr money and great facilities
By Chris
The family stayed for 1 night at the Holiday Inn (Gosforth). From the outside, the hotel appears outdated but once inside, the hotel looked very nice. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The [More] swimming pool was fantastic. The kids (and the parents) really enjoyed it. The location of the hotel is approx. 20min bus journey from the City centre of Newcastle. There is a regular bus service just at the back of the hotel (~2 minutes’ walk) Breakfast was also fab. Would defiantly recommend this hotel. [Less]
