    Neighbourhoods

    Explore Our Neighborhood

The focus of Dutch political life since the 13th century, The Hague celebrates its heritage at the Binnenhof, the world’s oldest seat of government. Our royal tradition is underpinned by the majesty of Palace Noordeinde and the opulent shopping streets around our hotel. It’s seen at the Mauritshuis, hung with regal masterpieces by Rembrandt and Vermeer. With the advent of the Peace Palace in 1913, the city took its place on the world stage. Today it’s the centre of Dutch banking and judiciary, bringing in prosperity, prestige and power.

Every polished feature in our hotel echoes the success story that is The Hague. You’ll notice the same attention lavished on the glittering gems in Noordeinde’s expensive jewellers and on the lovingly curated exhibitions in our local art galleries.

    Stocks & Bonds Brasserie

Our Noordeinde hotel offers locally sourced food at refined, relaxed Stocks & Bonds Brasserie. Breakfast is a tempting spread of smoked hams, cheeses and pastries accompanied by speciality coffees, and tasty dishes are served through the day. Later you can kick back with champagnes, fine wines and Dutch gins at our traditional bar.

    Stocks & Bonds Brasserie

    Kompaan Beer Bar

Home of award-winning craft beer Bloedbroeder, The Hague’s hottest microbrewery sits in industrial Binckhorsthaven and has a terrace with harbour views. A cavernous space with a double-decker bar, it’s packed at weekends with cool urbanites working through the impressive beer menu, buffalo burgers and bitterballen meatballs.

    Kompaan Beer Bar

    P G Dungelmann

Famous for serving Holland’s tastiest bitterballen meatballs, Dungelmann’s opened as a butcher in 1861. Line up with hungry locals at the deli counter for lunchtime rolls stuffed with charcuterie or spicy croquettes with a dollop of mustard. On sunny days, grab a table outside or assemble a picnic to eat in nearby Palace Gardens.

    The Penthouse

Perched 42 floors up in The Hague Tower, the glitzy Penthouse has wrap-around windows and an outdoor veranda for awesome city views. Go for afternoon tea or fine dining on fusion delicacies in its swanky panoramic restaurant. After dark, a glossy clique gathers in the Sky Bar to sip cocktails against a backdrop of shimmering neon.

    Palace Noordeinde

Opposite our hotel in genteel Noordeinde is the working palace of King Willem-Alexander. Built in serene neoclassical style, it’s guarded by a majestic equestrian statue of royal ancestor William of Orange. A state ceremony, complete with mounted escort, gilded coaches and a military band, takes place here on Wednesday mornings.

    Palace Noordeinde

    Palace Garden

Once the private domain of the Dutch Royal Family, the 17th-century Palace Garden is squeezed between Noordeinde Palace and the Royal Stables. A regal oasis of landscaped flower beds, tinkling fountains and marble statuary, its trees and lawns provide a shaded hangout for lunching diplomats as well as courting couples and picnickers.

    Palace Garden

    Mauritshuis

The sheer beauty of the Dutch Golden Age paintings in this former royal collection is matched by the elegance of its neoclassical home, an ornate 17th-century mansion beside Hofvijver lake. In galleries lined with jewel-coloured silk, showstoppers include works by Rembrandt and Hals, and Vermeer’s iconic “Girl with the Pearl Earring”.

    Mauritshuis

    Scheveningen Beach

The Hague’s chic seaside resort supports a cast of smart bistros, beach clubs and surf shops. In summer, crowds laze on the broad sandy sweep or bathe and surf in the North Sea. On the iconic pier you’ll find craft beers, food trucks serving Dutch pancakes oozing with chocolate and a Ferris wheel for thrilling rides over the sea.

    Scheveningen Beach

    Paard van Troje

The Hague’s number-one music venue segues effortlessly from rock den to clubbing central. Its neoclassical façade hides 2 Rem Koolhaas–designed concert halls, rammed with happy punters dancing to live jazz, reggae, blues and retro rock. Come the weekend, smart young fashionistas flock in for wild, late-night house parties.

    Paard van Troje
    Diligentia

A stalwart of The Hague’s cultural scene for 200 years, the Diligentia remains a firm favourite for cabaret, comedy and big-name musicals. Combining a stately 17th-century exterior with a lavish red-velvet and gilt auditorium, it’s the city’s ritziest, most glamorous theatre, with the Dutch Royal Family occasionally spotted in the boxes.

    Diligentia

    Zuiderstrandtheater

Bathed in rainbow lights by night, this seaside theatre sits among the dunes above Scheveningen harbour and its minimalist bar offers the best sunset views in town. The clean lines and sharp acoustics of the 1,000-seat auditorium lend themselves to an eclectic schedule of baroque recitals, leftfield modern dance and opera.

    Zuiderstrandtheater

    Korzo Theater

Pushing theatrical boundaries by fostering new dramatic talent, the Korzo is a high-tech mini-venue with an intimate vibe. Its banks of bench seats border a simple, unadorned theatre presenting an innovative roster of gigs, contemporary dance and hard-hitting plays. After a show, visit the retro bar to mingle with the performers.
