Neighborhoods
Explore Our Neighborhood
Leicester Square, its theatres and myriad music halls became a nightlife magnet in Victorian times, with the advent of cinema in the 1920s only serving to ramp up its heady allure. To this day, movie palaces such as the art deco Odeon are renowned for their premieres, when eager fans jostle for fleeting glimpses of adored, designer-clad celebrities. Around our hotel, dozens of Theatreland playhouses stage top-class drama, comedies and hit musicals, while lavish productions at the Royal Opera House and London Coliseum are legendary across the globe.
The West End’s theatrical heritage inspires every thoughtful detail in our boutique hotel. And if all the world’s a stage, our Rooftop Bar is a window on its theatre, with all the magic of London's red-carpet premieres laid out at your feet.
Prince Charles Cinema
The West End’s last indie movie house is compact and snug, serving up a mix of arthouse films and classics. Best of all are its famous Sing-A-Long-A shows. Stock up on popcorn for these late-night musical marathons and join an excitable audience to belt out tunes from cult favorites including "Grease" and "Pitch Perfect".
Covent Garden
With its ornate neoclassical market hall as centerpiece, Covent Garden was once home to a Victorian grocery market. Today you’ll find artisan stallholders flogging silver jewelry and handmade soaps to a backdrop of buskers crooning on the packed piazza outside. Smart boutiques and hip eateries line the surrounding tangle of streets.
National Portrait Gallery
Behind this gallery’s elegant Victorian façade, you’ll discover thousands of famous faces from Shakespeare to Ed Sheeran and Holbein to Hockney, plus a lively roster of thought-provoking temporary shows. Take tea at the Portrait Restaurant for London’s best views of Trafalgar Square, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
Leicester Square Theater
The West End’s leading comedy venue welcomes big-name – and notoriously subversive – stand-ups including Bill Bailey and Frankie Boyle to its stage. Its plush, red-velvet and gilt Victorian auditorium is also the spot to catch up-and-coming comic talent. You might even catch a night of risque cabaret or exotic burlesque.
St Martin-in-the-Fields
The gleaming spire of colonnaded, neoclassical St Martin’s has stood guard over Trafalgar Square since 1726. Its ornate, vaulted interior is famed for its rich acoustics, best enjoyed at lunchtime and evening concerts by world-renowned classical ensembles. Head downstairs to the Café in the Crypt for top-notch jazz nights.
Soho Comedy Club
The renowned Soho Comedy Club is a stalwart of the West End stand-up scene, with venues close to our hotel. For a night of razor-sharp, controversial wit, head for the typical Victorian ambience of the Round Table pub. You'll be rewarded with a helping of satirical one-liners from comedians as they banter with heckling audiences.
Ronnie Scott's
A true Soho landmark, Ronnie Scott's is London's home of jazz. Its late-night basement has welcomed all the greats from Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davies to Lady Gaga. Grab a whisky and feel the music touch your soul as jazz legends play their hearts out for you. Upstairs, take your pick of sessions from Cuban bands to poetry slams.
The 100 Club
Live music has blasted out of the 100 Club on Oxford Street since 1942 and in that time, it’s hosted acts from BB King to The Rolling Stones. The subterranean venue’s poster-strewn, blood-red decor is unaltered since the ‘70s. Jostle for pints at the bar and elbow your way to the front of the pygmy stage for punk, reggae and jazz gigs.
Rooftop Bar & Restaurant
You’ll adore the spectacular views over London from our panoramic rooftop eaterie inspired by the decadence of 1920s Shanghai– a theatrical experience whilst enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Opium
Behind a jade Chinatown door, Opium transports you back to the decadent Far East of legend. Among blood-red decor and outlandish chinoiserie, bartenders mix enigmatic cocktails inspired by the Chinese zodiac or produce refreshing herbal teas. As you drink, check out the dim sum parlor for some of the best freshly steamed dumplings in town.
Sarastro London
Sarastro grabs the eye as you enter, with its façade a riot of flowers. Inside, you’re greeted with an enchanting, baroque clash of styles and colors, overlooked by gilded theatre-style boxes and accompanied by an operatic soundtrack. The sensuality carries over to the menu, a tempting mélange of Turkish and Mediterranean flavors.
NOPI
Soho's jewel in Yotam Ottolenghi's foodie empire crown is an all-day feast of Middle Eastern delights. With whitewashed walls and brass fittings, there's a gleaming bar and a cozy space for romantic pre-theatre suppers à deux. Downstairs, long trestle tables welcome communal dinners for vast sharing platters accompanied by bio-dynamic wines.
