My husband and I stay at Candlewood hotel for 2 nights. The room was decent. It was clean but dated. We needed a room just to sleep so it was perfect for us. The location was very convenient for our itinerary.

Entire hotel and staff sub-par. No internet service entire stay. Garbage/trash smell permeated hotel. Elevator not working properly. This is second IHG this year that has problems.

Don’t expect ride to airport

We arrived late at night, flight was delayed so no rental cars available, got ride with grandson to hotel. Next morning I asked for ride to airport, 2.5 miles away. The desk clerk said- we can’t find keys to van! Seriously! So we called an Uber. Then manager shows up, with keys. Does he not trust his employees with keys? Said they could give erode as Uber arrived! Cost me $32.84 to ride 2.5 miles due to their lack of concern for guests.
Hotel is older, needs work, lobby area not clean, front desk clerk- same one on duty night then morning shift- was not helpful or concerned at all. He really didn’t try to assist us.we’ve stayed at IHG properties lots of times in past, but due to health issues we don’t much anymore. A disappointment for our visit to see our six grandkids! Didn’t even thank us for being loyal members! Plus my profile says close to elevator, which the clerk put us almost at opposite end of hallway from elevator

I stayed at this hotel for 9 days. Never got one service of any kind the whole time I was there. No internet for the first 4 days and the elevator was broken for 2 of those days and I was on the 4th floor. Studdle bus was broke down so no ride to the airport. Had to the air conditioner and the shower fixed.

t4he worst hotel i have stayed in in do years. staff is useless,do nothing ,do not know what they are doing. would stay in a pup tent before i stayed in that hotel, STAFF IS USELESS, DO NOT KNOW WHAT THERE JOB IS AND ARE TO DUMB AND LAZY TO DO THERE JOB. WORST HOTEL I HAVE STAYED IN IN 50 YEARS

Unsatisfactory Stay

I would like to express my frustration at a recent stay at the Candlewood in Richmond Airport.

While the check-in was fast and friendly, we were told by the clerk that internet wasn't working. We and other guests quickly found out that the elevator wasn't functioning either as we tried to get to our room on the third floor. We had to carry our suitcases up the stairs three floors, a very frustrating and exhausting exercise most of us are not ready for.

Inside the room, the coffee maker wasn't working and the bathroom ceiling lamp didn't turn on. The body soap inside the Dove bottle wasn't Dove body soap but something completely different in color and fragrance. While these three last issues are minor compared to the former, the impression is that the place is not managed.

I expressed my frustration at the front desk this morning during check out and he apologized but didn't seem to take any action.
I followed up with a written complain to IHG guest relations and immediately received a written apology and the assurance that the issues were going to be addressed. I was also compensated with IHG reward points for the unsatisfactory experience.

Good and bad

Good: Each room has a kitchen. Check in was fast and easy.
Bad: stayed 3 days. No wifi. Staff had no idea when it would be fixed.
They gave my room key card to another person. I heard someone trying to get into my room at 1:00am, luckily I had the dead bolt and top piece on. Day 2 elevator would not call to 1st floor, had to take stairs. Card key would not work on any exterior doors after hours.

Room was clean. There were chicken wings and potato chips in the hallway for more than a day. All the good parking is for Elite members.

Poor

Deadbolt was broken, shower was broken. Attempted to change rooms. Front desk gave me a new room and the new room was fill with someone else stuff and was trashed. I cancelled my stay and went to the Homewood Suites. I lost all my points because he said I would not be able to recoup my points. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone for any reason. I should have gotten the Que when I seen the beer cans and bottles by the entrance and people “smoking” in the parking lot. Place not kept up.

We had arranged for our mother to stay at Candlewood Suites for a week-long class in Richmond, and the experience was exceptional. The hotel staff provided us with outstanding service upon our arrival, beyond what we had previously experienced at other hotels. The staff member on duty introduced herself, thanked us for being members, and gave us all the necessary information, making us feel welcome. After the check-in, we thoroughly cleaned and disinfected her room. To our surprise, our cleaning clothes were barely dirty when we finished cleaning the room. This showed that the hotel staff maintains a higher cleanliness standard than other hotels.

The hotel is located near various facilities such as restaurants, electric vehicle charging posts, a post office, a grocery store, a drug store, etc., providing everything our mother needed to feel at home. We went shopping and stocked up her kitchen, and she went to Publix daily to get some fresh fruit. The fantastic environment allowed her to work, study, and, most importantly, rest. Additionally, the hotel is conveniently located right off the interstate. Every night, when we checked on her, we didn't get a response until the morning because she was so relaxed that she would pass out as soon as she got back each evening.
