Problems with dinner

I chose this hotel for its location. It was not purpose built as the one I had just come from, but it was comfortable. However I was a little disturbed, that the bathroom had no blind, and I was a female on the ground floor.
What was very disappointing was the dinner. When I checked in, I checked the restaurant availability and was told there would not be a problem, as they were not busy. I was not told of any opening times. When I went along for dinner, I was then told the restaurant is closed on Sundays. Dinner was available in a lounge. I chose two dishes, a starter and a main. When the starter arrived, it was not what was on the menu. Although quite nice, it was not what I had ordered. The same happened with the main course. I sent it back, as the menu said a salad, and that was what I wanted. When I queried both courses, it was a series of excuses - "between menus", " new chef". However it was not just me. One of the couple on the next table was served stone-cold chips. I was offered to have the meal redelivered, which was not a sensible option. She was offered a glass of wine. All this was totally unacceptable. I told reception as I checked out, but not sure anything would be done.

My stay here was splendid. All the members of the staff went the extra mile to provide a great experience. I would highly recommend Holiday Inn Basingstoke to anyone visiting South England.

Room and bed very comfortable , however the bathroom could benefit from updating . Did not use restaurant for my evening meal , however breakfast was plentiful and fresh . Bar area a little cramped due to a private party in progress so took my drink to my room .
Refuses to accept business edge

Rooms very tired and old, window curtain looked like a cat had shred it to ribbons.
I booked using the Ihg card on the website yet when I tried to check in the guy on reception claimed he didn’t know what the card was and said because he would have to enter it manually he would do it in the morning.
When I tried to check out the next day the new guy on reception also said he didn’t know what the card was and despite calling his supervisor he couldn’t put the payment through.
What is the point of the card if the hotel staff claim they don’t recognise it.
This is the second time I’ve had problems with payments and both times were down to the hotel. Never again.
Also, upon checking in the guy claimed I just needed to write down my vehicle reg, then next morning I was told it had to be inputted on the machine.
Again, what’s the point of the staff if they don’t know what they are supposed to be doing?
It’s no wonder people, myself included are using online booking sites more and more rather than staying loyal to one brand.

We stayed a weekend at the hotel. The staff were friendly and the sign in good with everything covered. The room was comfortable as was the bed. There was sufficient room to relax. The bathroom was clean and well adequate. The dining room was pleasant and there is a varied menu available for reasonable prices. I can recommend a stay at this hotel.

We were so fortunate to have warm sunny weather during our stay and we enjoyed walks from the Holiday Inn leaving our cars in the car park there.
It was good to explore the town and parks on foot which were an easy walk from the Holiday Inn.
Our Spa day at The Hampshire Court Hotel was also very enjoyable and only a short drive away.
The breakfasts were very special and set us up for the day.
All in all we had a wonderful break.

Well what can I say, food cheap and nasty but very expensive for the customer. Mattresses awful cheap and nasty, pillows a disgrace, Staff very pleasant, breakfast very good and plenty of choice

A comfortable and friendly hotel with helpful staff. It's pleasing to see the improvements with regards to modernisation and improving the decor.
