Traveling "Around the World in 80 Days" may be just a dream, but you can get as close as possible with a visit to Kansas City's Worlds of Fun amusement park. Originally opened in 1973 and spanning over 230 acres, the funfair is notable for its literary origins. Each ride and themed area is loosely based around the classic action book written by Jules Verne.
Things to Do
With a name like "Worlds of Fun," you know there’s plenty to entertain visitors of all ages. The normal roller coasters, carousels, and trains abound, but with the theme of traveling the world, there are plenty of unusual and exciting things to see too. The six distinct areas of the park include Africa, Americana, Europa, Orient, Scandinavia, and "Planet Snoopy."
The biggest roller coaster in the park is the huge wooden monster, "The Prowler," which opened in 2006 in the African section of the park. Other roller coasters include Boomerang, Timber Wolf, and Spinning Dragons.
Of course, there’s more than roller coasters to keep families occupied. There are water rides like Viking Voyager and Fury of the Nile. There are bumper cars and a carousel. And, since no theme park is complete without a Ferris wheel, there’s the Skyliner.
For all the kids in the family, Planet Snoopy is the area geared toward the smallest visitors and has rides suitable for children of all ages.
