186,000 square meters, 20 exhibition halls, an arena, over 140 shows, 400 conferences and 3 million visitors each year - all these things define the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), the largest exhibition centre in the United Kingdom and the busiest in all of Europe.
Located in Birmingham, West Midlands in the United Kingdom, the NEC was opened in 1976 by Queen Elizabeth II. The complex has grown over the years but today includes 20 exhibition halls and the LG Arena, a 16,000 seat venue. It is situated adjacent to the Birmingham airport making its location ideal for conventioneers and show visitors.
There is almost always something interesting going on the NEC, but shows change frequently, so guests are advised to the check the facility’s website (www.nec.co.uk) prior to visiting for the most up to date information. Here is a sampling of the types of events you might discover at the NEC.
The NEC hosts a wide variety of shows each year. These range from motor shows to garden shows, and cycle exhibits to horse shows. Since 1991 the NEC has annually hosted the dog show Crufts. In 1991, Crufts was officially given the title of “World’s Largest Dog Show” by the Guinness Book of Records, with over 22,000 dogs being exhibited. No matter how big, how small - or how furry - the NEC can handle it!
Since 2009 the LG Arena has been a part of the NEC complex. This 16,000 seat arena can host acts big and small, and has seen some of the best musical talent in the world come through its doors. The Spice Girls, David Bowie, Queen, Beyonce and even the legendary Tina Turner - these are just a few of the world famous performers that have played shows here.
Bars, restaurants and other hospitality areas are part of the LG Arena, and make this a full service fan experience.
