A Weekend at the Kimpton Clocktower – A Delight fr

By

July 15, 2025

I recently spent a long weekend at the Kimpton Clocktower and came away thoroughly charmed by both the hotel and its standout dining experiences. Here’s why this historic Manchester property deserves all the praise it gets:

Room Accommodations & Features
• Split Double Room: My split double felt more like a chic city apartment than a standard hotel room. The clever mezzanine design gives you two distinct spaces—perfect for spreading out without upgrading to a suite. Upstairs, the plush bed and crisp linens made drifting off effortless, while the downstairs lounge area was great for morning coffee and late-night reading.
• Style & Comfort: Expect soaring ceilings, original Victorian details and modern pops of color. The curated artwork and high-end finishes strike a perfect balance between heritage and contemporary cool.
• Tech & Touches: USB ports by the bed, a generously stocked minibar, and a yoga mat tucked in the closet (a Kimpton signature) showed thoughtful attention to detail. and the heated towel rack was LUSH!

One of the joys of staying at the Clocktower is wandering the communal spaces. From velvet-lined alcoves off the grand lobby to book-filled corners near the winter garden, there are countless spots to sip a cocktail, answer emails, or simply soak in the architecture. Each discovery feels like you’ve stumbled upon a private retreat in the middle of the city.

Breakfast sets the tone for the day, and The Refuge delivers in spades. The spread is simultaneously indulgent and wholesome:
• Continental Corner: Fresh pastries still warm from the oven, flaky croissants, local honey, and fruit compotes.
• Hot Options: Made-to-order eggs, perfectly crisp bacon, herb-dusted mushrooms, and the fluffiest hash browns.
• Extras: A station dedicated to fresh juices and smoothies, plus barista-quality coffee that rivals any specialty café.
• I only wish breakfast or an abbreviated version of it was offered a little later.

If you could only experience one meal here, make it The Refuge’s Sunday Roast. Served in the dramatic Winter Garden, the ambience alone is worth reserving a table. Highlights:
• Roast Beef: Cooked medium-rare, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and accompanied by a horseradish cream that gives just the right kick.
• Yorkshire Puddings: Towering, golden and airy—arguably the best I’ve had in Manchester.
• Sides & Sauces: Duck-fat roast potatoes, maple-glazed carrots, seasonal greens, and a gravy so rich it practically counts as a dish on its own. Vegetarian and vegan roasts are equally satisfying, showing off the kitchen’s versatility.
• Dessert: Sticky toffee pudding crowned with vanilla bean ice cream—an ideal finish.

The team strikes a balance between approachable warmth and polished professionalism. Whether it was housekeeping accommodating an early turndown or restaurant staff discussing wine pairings, everyone seemed genuinely invested in enhancing the stay. The rich history of the building, paired with eclectic décor and an easygoing vibe, makes it just as appealing for a romantic escape as for a business trip.

Kimpton Clocktower effortlessly weaves together historic grandeur, contemporary comfort, and memorable dining. The split double room offered both style and practicality, while the hidden nooks invited quiet reflection. Add a flawless breakfast and a Sunday Roast that could convert any skeptic, and you have a destination worthy of repeat visits. I’m already plotting my next return with or without seeing another Oasis concert.

Different experiences for different rooms

By

July 08, 2025

My husband and I used our free night certificates for 2 nights. Even though I called in advance to link the two, they were not. So upon checking in after midnight, they said we'd have to change rooms in the morning. Thank God. The first room, on the south side of the hotel was practically on the train tracks. Loudest room I have ever been in. It was almost comical. They allowed us early check in to an upgraded room on the north side, which was lovely and quiet and comfortable. It'd be hard to recommend this hotel, as you can't be sure where you'd end up. They should really renovate it so that there are no guest rooms in that wing.

A luxurious hotel with amazing staff.

By

June 28, 2025

We had an overnight stay in June when we came to Manchester to see a band at the Apollo. The staff were brilliant, they couldn't have looked after us more. The hotel is high end, it was a real treat. Couldn't fault it, the room was spotless. We had drinks in the bar afterwards and everyone we had interactions with were SO lovely, the bar staff, the dj spinning excellent tunes. Special mention to the staff on the reception who really looked after us on arrival (I was very flustered an anxious to get to the gig on time). They were lovely. Thank you for a great stay.

Staying in the Manchester area? Want a hotel with the WOW factor at a reasonable price? Then look no further!, it's here!. Centrally located, handy for the Oxford road railway station. The hotel has everything you need to make your stay just that little bit special. Light airy, quiet rooms. Staff are attentive, welcoming and helpful. Food is well above the norm for an IHG style hotel. Want to relax? Great bar on site. Definitely worth booking this hotel to make your Staycation, or Business meeting that little bit more special.

Beautiful Hotel

By

June 23, 2025

One of my favourite places to stay rooms are super clean and spacious, great amenities. The only reason I didn’t give this stay a 5 star was due to not having my room replenished with milk and sugar might sound pedantic but when you have asked 3 times 2 hours apart each ask and you still don’t get it and then on the 3rd time made to feel like an annoyance it takes the shine away from your stay.

Perfect stay!

By

We stayed 2 nights at the Kimpton Clocktower for my husband's birthday and could not have been happier. Everything - the champagne greeting in our room, the excellent location (right across from the train station), the complimentary happy hour each evening and the friendly and courteous staff - could not have been better. Highly recommend and we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Great break In Manchester

By

June 22, 2025

We had the pleasure of staying at the Kimpton Clocktower hotel on 29th May.
We were usually met by Abbie, but on this occasion we were welcomed by Kate (sorry I think that was your name) who recognised us from previous visits, and went above and beyond to help us check in and change some room details without any fuss.
The room was spacious and well kept, but for us, it’s the staff that are fantastic, approachable and friendly that make our visits a pleasure.
Thank you once again, but especially to Kate and Gabrielle.
