Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Below my Expectations I was excited to stay at this hotel when I arrived. The outside looked very beautiful. Everything went downhill from there. As an Ambassador Platinum member, I'm supposed to get an automatic upgraded room. That wasn't the case as I had to ask for the upgrade and they had to search in the computer to confirm. The room I was "upgraded" to was about the size of my bathroom at home. I guess and upgrade at this hotel means a higher floor. I don't really consider the 9th floor of a high rise a high floor. The room along with being very small was very dated and being an older hotel had very few electrical outlets. I ended up switching to the sister hotel the next two nights. 29 March 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by lost its luster While the staff is excellent, the Mark isn't a 5 star property. The location is excellent, however, the hotel has seen better days. The towels were worn and thin. Top of the Mark is no longer "top'. The breakfast buffet is expensive and unimaginative. Egg whites are unavailable and there is no omelet station, only scrambled eggs in a warming pan. Overall, an expensive disappointment. 29 March 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great location and great service My husband and I had a great experience staying at the Mark Hopkins. The valet staffs greeted us by name and we were like good friends. One staff even remembered the first time we visited the hotel and that was more than ten years ago! The check in staff also recognized us and said hello to us. The stay was like a second home to us. The mattress was on the soft side, one needs a better mattress all in all. 26 March 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding...except for one thing I stayed at the Mark Hopkins for a writers conference in February 2015. I go to a lot of conferences and stay in a lot of hotels each year and the Mark Hopkins was among my favorites. First of all...the location. SO awesome to be at the top of the hill. The view from my room was stellar--and it was an obstructed view but it was still pretty cool. Everything was clean and well maintained. I asked for a fridge in my room and one was brought up pronto. The extra fee was surprisingly steep and I probably could have fit the crazy health food I needed in the mini bar fridge but oh well. The staff I interacted with were all super nice and helpful. The layout of the hotel was great for a conference where I didn't need to do a ton of walking down long corridors to get to the conference rooms. It would've been nice to have the option to take the stairs instead of wait for the elevator but that is a minor thing that most people wouldn't care about. it's just sometimes during conferences when you sit for hours it feels good to take the stairs and get a little movement going. The bed was super cozy and the room was quiet but the one thing that drove me a little nuts was the lovely gauzy curtain in my room. I don't have trouble sleeping when there is a little light in the room usually but there was SO MUCH light that came in through that gauzy curtain that I just don't think I did more than doze the three nights I stayed there. The light just made it impossible to fall into a deep sleep. Instead I spent a lot of time contemplating how amazingly comfy the bed was! Usually hotels have those blackout curtains that are the other end of the spectrum, where you can't see a thing when they are closed. Anyway, that was the only thing that really got me down about the room but I would go back in a heartbeat. I would just bring a sleep mask or something so I could hopefully sleep better. 24 March 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Beds and View at the Mark Hopkins My colleagues and I were in town for several days of negotiations and the Mark Hopkins Hotel provided excellent service and rest from the busy days of negotiations. I enjoy the open environment and hustle/bustle of San Francisco. 16 March 2015
