Insider Tips

Don't call it Frisco!

San Francisco is a great diverse city, with its people from all parts of the world. We're friendly and enjoy showing off our city, don't hesitate to ask anyone for directions!
As splendid as when it opened in 1926, Mark Hopkins is one of the city’s finest historic San Francisco luxury hotels. It’s ideally located at the crossing of three cable car lines, just minutes from Union Square. Each suite is furnished in a unique, stately style. Breathtaking views of San Francisco combine with fine dining and a signature 100 Martini menu at Top of the Mark restaurant. Described when it opened as ‘architecturally perfect’, this San Francisco luxury hotel remains so today.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Don't Expect Overwhelming Excellence Here If you drive here, you can expect to pay at least $45 per night for parking. Don't get a room facing the intersection. It gets NOISY when the garbage truck picks up forty containers early in the morning. [Yes, that's what happened to us.] Don't expect a lot of water flow from the shower heads. 16 April 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy Room I wasn't particularly impressed with our room on the 14th floor. Whilst it was clean, the 'view' of the Golden Gate Bridge was very poor. The room was very noisy, I could hear doors closing all down the hall. I can't believe as a Platinum member there was no complimentary water in the room and I was expected to pay $6.50 for a water.... which then rose to $7 on the Fri night! When I complained this was refunded. The staff were friendly, but overall I think the other InterContinental is better value. 16 April 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing treatment of Royal Ambassador Member I was very excited to visit the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco as this is the only hotel I ever stay at in the area. I was traveling with my wife and another couple. The morning we were leaving I called down to the front desk to ask if I could bring the other couple we were traveling with to the club lounge for a complementary brunch with us. I was assured this would be no problem. Upon checking out I was told I had to pay for the couple and the charge for brunch would be $160.00. I was amazed that even after I called to confirm it was ok for them to receive a complementary breakfast I was still charged. I tried speaking with the manager on duty but was told I was wrong and would be charged anyway. Needless to say this will most likely change my hotel of choice when traveling to San Francisco. 16 April 2015
