Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced today that it received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2015 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). Kimpton was the first hospitality company to earn a perfect score in 2004, and since then has received the top rating annually, marking this the 11th consecutive year.
“Without a doubt, our employees are behind every recognition we receive and are key to our continued success,” said Mike Depatie, CEO and president at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. “Earning a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index for the eleventh year in a row, which speaks directly to the diverse and inviting culture that we’re careful to maintain, is extremely rewarding.”
"In order to achieve a perfect score, a company has to show a deep and serious commitment to treating their LGBT employees fairly and equally on the job. We also look at whether a company is speaking out in the public square to advocate for LGBT equality here in this country and around the world,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants not only meets these standards, it goes above and beyond the call of duty, making commitment to equality a fundamental aspect of its corporate values."
Over the last decade, Kimpton has received numerous awards for its outstanding and collaborative workplace culture. In 2010, Kimpton was awarded with the second annual HRC Innovation Award for Workplace Equality for its pioneering benefits programs, including transgender-inclusive, fully-insured employee health plans and grossing up employees' income to offset taxes from domestic partner benefits. Additionally, Kimpton has received “Best Company to Work For” awards from numerous publications, including:
- FORTUNE (the highest ranked hospitality company in the U.S for five years)
- The Advocate
- Baltimore Business Journal
- Boston Business Journal
- Chicago Tribune
- Crain's New York Business

The 2015 CEI rated 972 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. Kimpton’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.
