Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced today that it was named to FORTUNE’s 2014 “100 Best Companies to Work For” list. It’s the fifth time on the list for the company. This year, Kimpton shoots up seven spots to grab number 21 on the list. Kimpton is the highest ranked hospitality company in the U.S., and the only one in the top 50, to be recognized for its continuous dedication to creating a transparent and engaging workplace, which are key factors of the list rankings.
“We have the best employees in the world,” said Mike Depatie, CEO and president at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. “I’m humbled every day by the authentic care they show our guests and the intuitive, unscripted service they deliver. Inclusion on the FORTUNE ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list validates their spirit and heartfelt approach to taking care of people, and our commitment to creating an environment where our employees want to come to work each day.”
In addition to being named a top employer by FORTUNE magazine, Kimpton recently earned a 100 percent score for workplace equality for the 10th year in a row by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and is continuously recognized as a great place to work by local business publications in many of the 26 cities where Kimpton operates.
Methodology To pick the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” Fortune partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America: More than 257 companies participated in this year’s survey and over 252,000 employees at those companies responded to a survey created by the institute, a global research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries around the world. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the results of the institute’s Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management’s credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts. Any company that is at least five years old and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible.
