    My wife and I had stayed at this hotel the previous two weeks on business and encountered poor service and an unclean environment with broken equipment. I reported the issues requiring immediate attention to the front desk and other problems to IHG Customer Care to handle with the local hotel.

    On my third visit, the hotel general manager wrote to me, “I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with you during your stay this week. I realize that you are very unhappy with your previous stays, and I want to make sure I handle all of your issues directly. If this is agreeable, please let me know what is convenient for you.”

    I declined to meet with the general manager in person since I leave before 7 am and return after 7 pm. In addition, the front desk staff had attributed the fire alarm to my wife’s ethnic cooking, so I wanted to minimize my contact with hotel staff or management. I just wanted them to follow up on any open issues on their own.

    The general manager replied, “If you choose not to meet with me I will have to cancel your future reservations, as I feel it is important for us to work this out face to face.” My wife had already checked into the room, so I feared he would force her to leave. I had to meet the general manager in person because IHG Customer Care supported his threat to cancel my reservations, adding that he could also call the police to force us to leave.
    The general manager claimed that he just wanted to meet for 5 minutes to provide me a point of contact for future issues, yet he kept me for than 35 minutes and never provided his cell number. We had already exchanged emails, so I already had his email address.

    Both IHG Customer Care and the hotel general manager believed the local general manager has the right to refuse accommodations and evict guests for any reason, yet this innkeeper’s right may be limited to the following reasons:

    1. Failure to pay the bill
    2. Occupying a room beyond the agreed upon time
    3. Persons of ill repute
    4. Intoxication and disorderly conduct
    5. Disorderly conduct
    6. Contagiously ill guests but must use extreme care to avoid aggravating the condition
    7. Breaking house rules; rules should be posted in a conspicuous place
    8. Person who is not registered
    9. A business competitor who comes to the hotel solicit customers

    None of these reasons applied to my case. My wife and I hardly spoke to fellow guests and staff. I reported problems requiring immediate attention to the front desk staff without ever raising my voice and let them attempt to resolve them. When the front desk staff insulted our ethnic cooking, I did not complain. We just stopped cooking there.

    I have never been refused service at any business. The hotel general manager abused his power, yet IHG allowed it to happen.

    All we needed to feel comfortable/at-home & more!

    Anything we asked for was quickly given, the new renovations made the place really feel welcome. As we stayed for almost 2 months, we used just about everything - with no complaints or issues. If we saw something was a problem we notified the staff and they quickly addressed and corrected the issue. It was great that they actually had enough people on hand to handle all situations for maintenance and upkeep. Ms. Miller, the manager, leads by example - you have a real winner in her, and you'd better do all you can to keep this superstar onboard!

    The hotel placed my wife and me on the first floor right next to the exit door used by guests who routinely go outside for a smoke break. When I asked for a different room upon checking in on Sunday, the front desk staff member claimed the hotel was fully booked, yet there weren't that many cars in the parking lot and there was no crowd at breakfast the next morning. After complaining to customer service, the hotel magically had another room available.

    The hotel remained unclean due to the lack of staff assigned to maintain it. Some of the same broken equipment from the previous week remained broken.
