Formerly the Refuge Assurance staff dining room, The Ballroom is the largest single event space within a hotel in the northwest of England. Combining many original, listed features with all the modern touches to run a large wedding, the Ballroom even has its own stage, as well as natural daylight, a private bar and a dedicated, private entrance from Waterhouse Way.

A large open-plan space that can be cleverly separated to make three flexible rooms, The Whitworth Rooms offer stunning double-height windows and a full bar that can be opened as the occasion demands. The Whitworth is commonly used in conjunction with our Ballroom. 

With over-sized windows and stunning oak panelling, The Director's Suite appeal to those looking for a luxury feel for a small wedding for up to 60 guests. The journey begins with the ornate marble staircase, with the suite licensed for your civil ceremony and perfect for an exceptional dining experience.

Keep things fresh and get married al fresco on The Terrace, a unique courtyard space connected to The Refuge. Host friends and family at the heart of the city, enjoy music and dancing outside, dine undercover and soak up the vibrant and dynamic atmosphere of Manchester.  

Located next to The Den, in the heart of The Refuge, The Winter Garden is a beautifully elegant space bringing the outside in, with foliage galore. It’s perfect for canapé and drinks receptions before your main event, or simply for an intimate soirée.

The perfect spot for birthdays or work get-togethers, The Den is your own space that’s still connected to the atmosphere of our Public Bar. Play videos or slide shows on the big screen and have a game of foosball or pool. The pool table also transforms into a dining station, where you can dive into sharing platters from our Den menu- a selection of our most popular dishes from The Dining Room. As the space is semi-private it shares the same music playlist as The Public Bar. From Thursday onwards our resident DJs play a mixture of swing, disco, funk and house.
