Excellent stay

29 March 2015

Lovely location, but a bit tricky to find as access is through an industrial estate with poor road surface - but don't be put off. Lake at front of hotel, fountain at back, plenty of parking. Easy walk to River Thames - ask for directions. Warm welcome at reception. Room large with good facilities. Reason for a 4 and not 5 for room comfort is the bed, which had very soft mattress, unusual for a hotel of this quality. Also pictures on wall were appalling; gone wrong children's splodges! Surely something better can be provided, eg flowers, trees, pictures of Thames. Another annoying feature was number of tvs in bar, couldn't avoid them. Note to hotels - not everyone wants to watch tv, we actually wanted a conversation. Breakfast excellent with plenty of choice and pleasant ambiance. Small quibbles above, although bed was annoying. Pool and outside spa pool looked inviting but didn't have time to try.

Great hotel let down a little by room service

26 March 2015

Lovely hotel albeit the approach through a business area was a little unusual. However, once you arrive at the hotel you forget how you got there as the hotel itself is great. The staff couldn't do more for us and the rooms were very comfortable and well appointed.
We tried to book dinner for our party (6 adults and 2 children) on the Saturday evening but were disappointed to be told the restaurant was fully booked - point to note if you're staying for the weekend, book your table for dinner before you arrive. As the children were very young and it was too late to go out with them we decided to use room service and wished we hadn't.
The menu didn't have much that appealed but we finally chose meals that would suit us. When they were delivered there were things missing and the pizza was probably the worst we'd ever had. The staff did their best to make things better but the damage had been done. Other meals (breakfasts) were really good so I hope that our experience with room service was a one off. Other than the room service I do rate this hotel highly.
