Torre de Control, Pje. Muelle de Honor, Nueva Andalucía, Marbella, Málaga 29660

A kilometre west of the hotel, Puerto Banús is Marbella's glamorous marina, 915 berths of sheltered water backed by designer boutiques, restaurants and bars. Superyachts line the Dock of Honour, and the people-watching is half the appeal. Spend an afternoon browsing the shops, linger over lunch by the water, or stroll the quays taking in the boats. By night it shifts gear into one of the coast's liveliest nightlife scenes. Reachable on foot along the promenade or a short taxi ride away.

Plaza de Río Verde

C. del Río, 1B, Marbella, Málaga 29602

Tucked into the Río Verde district just behind the hotel, this small park belongs to the Río Verde urbanization but stays open to the public. Its iron railings and quiet greenery make a calm pause among the front-line villas, with nearby bougainvillea over the walls. The district takes its name from the river along its western edge, which you can follow on foot, crossing toward Puerto Banús via the wooden footbridge linking the two. An easy, low-key stop on a wander through the neighbourhood.

Marbella Arena

Antigua Pl. de Toros, Av. Pilar Calvo, s/n, Marbella, Málaga 29660

Set in the old Puerto Banús bullring, Marbella Arena is the coast's big-name live venue, staging concerts, theatre and sport through the warmer months. Recent summer line-ups have drawn the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, UB40 and Two Door Cinema Club, with the open-air setting giving every show a balmy Marbella backdrop. It is a short hop from the hotel, so an evening here pairs easily with dinner around the marina. Check the calendar when you book, since the schedule shifts from spring into autumn.

Embarcadero

Urb. Marbella Country Club, 172, Marbella, Málaga 29602

This slim wooden jetty reaches out from Playa de Nagüeles, and it has become one of the coast's favourite spots to watch the sun go down. Stand at the end and you get clear water below, often with fish darting about, and a sweeping view back over Marbella to the craggy La Concha peak. It sits right on the seafront path between Puerto Banús and the old town, an easy detour on a longer coastal walk. Evenings are quietest and the light is at its best, so time your visit for golden hour.

Playa de Levante

Muelle de Levante s/n, Puerto Banús, Marbella, Málaga 29660

Also known as Playa Puerto Banús, this is the beach right across from the hotel. It runs just over a kilometre with fine sand and a 50-metre width, and a breakwater keeps the cove calm and shallow, which makes it a favourite with families. The Paseo Alberto Vidiella Tudores follows the whole length, with play areas for children and a summer craft market, and you can cross the Río Verde footbridge to carry on toward Marbella. Showers, toilets, loungers and summer lifeguards round out the setup.

Ralli Museum

Urb.coral Beach, Rio Verde, N-340, km.176, Marbella, Málaga 29602

Practically next door on the Golden Mile, the Ralli Museum is a quiet gem and entry is always free. Opened in 2000, it holds one of Europe's most important Latin American art collections alongside a permanent European collection, across ten rooms with a strong showing of Surrealist work. It is an easy, unhurried hour or two away from the beach, with rotating exhibitions worth checking before you go. Closed Sundays and Mondays, so plan your visit for midweek or Saturday morning.
