O que você pode fazer

Sayulita

Av. Revolución 41, Sayulita, Nay. 63734

Twenty minutes up the coast, Sayulita started as a fishing village and grew into one of Mexico's best-known surf towns. The waves run all year, with the North swells bringing the best breaks between December and April. Beyond the beach, the cobblestone streets pull guests into bakeries, art galleries, and artisan shops selling beaded jewelry, silk rebozos, wool garments, and clay sculptures. A short trip from our Punta Mita hotel for an afternoon, or a full day if the place catches you.

Parque Nacional Islas Marietas

Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz

Marlin 39-A, Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nay. 63734

Twenty minutes southeast of our Punta Mita hotel, the fishing village of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle wraps around Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz. The marina holds 340 slips and the title of the only full-service marina on Mexico's Pacific coast, but most guests come for what's grown up around it: pebble-stone roads, restaurants running live music, a fresh fish market on the marina premises, and a Sunday farmers market that earns the drive on its own.

Monkey Mountain

Juan Escutia 135, Higuera Blanca, Nay. 63734

Monkey Mountain sits a short drive inland from our Punta Mita hotel, with the Higuera Blanca trailhead starting in the village's central plaza. The 4.5-mile out-and-back climbs steadily through shaded jungle, with cows, birds, and the occasional Wixárika cultural site along the way. The last 500 meters turn into a rocky scramble, and the summit's panoramic Banderas Bay view earns the 1,033-foot climb. Dry season runs November through April.

Malecón Puerto Vallarta

Paseo Díaz Ordaz S/N, Centro, Puerto Vallarta, Jal. 48300

The Malecón sits about 45 minutes south of our Punta Mita hotel, a pedestrian-only boardwalk running 11 blocks along Puerto Vallarta's downtown waterfront. The route doubles as an open-air sculpture gallery, with works like The Rotunda of the Sea anchoring the stretch. Restaurants, bars, galleries, and street vendors fill the spaces between. The Papantla Flying Men perform their traditional pole descent most evenings, and the Los Muertos pier closes the walk at the south end.
