We went to Samui for a short weekend stay, not thinking too much. It ended up in a fabulous weekend. Having been in IHG hotels all over the world we are used to a certain expectation from all the hotels. Without doubt, the Intercontinental Koh Samui was far away the best from all those hotels. From receiving, to enjoying the sunset view at the sky-bar till departure it was more then a simple awesome, the staff made it clearly a different level of service during the stay. Many thanks for that.

It was early in the morning, huge eagles hovered near our balcony in the breeze. Well, my wife said they were crows, not eagles. Under the tail of tropical storm Lionrock, the sky was an overcast. Honeymoon Suite 614 is located a far walk from the main building. Situated in the middle of a steep hill side, the view may not be as exhilarating as other units higher up. But the view was unobstructed, and we could see across the horizon. We were told this is the Honeymoon Suite with the best of views. The balcony runs across the whole front of our unit, and at the side into the back. I sipped coffee, gazed into the cobalt sea, and melted into a pile of relaxation on the sofa set. The interior is very open, the floors wooden. Glass doors all around let in the massive seascape which we took in laying on the plushy bed. Our room is massive, the kid had places to run. There is a round table, we can have our dining in comfort. A sturdy desk at the side, a long work-from-hotel stay I wish I can afford. Behind the room, an expanse of a bathroom with a free-standing tub. The shower cubical encased in glass is extraordinary. A whopping continuous piece of marble runs all the way up the wall within. The is the intrinsic luxurious standards of an InterContinental club suite. We found it delightful that they had provide a mini bathrobe for our child. It was cute when we placed it alongside the adult ones. Bathrobes here ain’t no thin sheets, they are of superior quality. It is of substantial thickness and a material that provided warmth. We love the fact that they had also provided a mini vanity kit for our child, complete with colorful mini bottles of liquid soap, shampoo, lotion and children’s toothbrush. And the bedroom slippers!! There was a mini pair placed alongside the 2 adult pairs!! How so very cute!!

Having club privileges, we got to indulged in an assortment of pastries and cakes served out in an elegant bird cage for tea-time. One afternoon we had it at the club lounge next to the lobby. We were the only ones there enjoying the constant breeze. The open-air lounge perched high, the panorama of azure skies beyond. It was so tranquil. The other afternoon, we had it at the pool side below. It was a Sunday and more guests had to started to arrive. Mostly families with young children, just like us. The majority were locals, domestic travelers predominantly. The kids’ club was not open for pandemic reasons, but fortunately the little playground was not cordoned off. Beyond the pool, the sandy beach for building sandcastles. But the sea was green with algae this season, so we stayed away from it. There is a lovely suspension bridge that links the main building to the walkways. Those paths either lead down into the beach, or to the area where the villas are. Stairs and slopes aplenty, and the reason why travelling in the resort involves a call to reception for a buggy. It is a long steep incline from the carpark below up to where the lobby is. One can really lose weight trekking in this resort.

There are secret pools located all over the cliffy terrain. The Blue Pool was one which is next to our unit. That was where I escaped to during times when I really needed some me time away from my child. Parents will know what I am talking about. Sometimes, we just need peace away from young children. They can be like a broken radio that makes noise even after you have taken its batteries out. Cut the electrical cords and still it is making noise…. There are a total of 6 pools to choose from. The infinity pool by the main building was under renovation. The Purple pool was off limits as it is private for the 3-Bedrooms Villa. The pool by the beach was the only one with shallows for children and that was where we spent one good afternoon. Getting to all the pools, will be a workout on its own. You will have muscular legs like tree trunks after visiting them all by foot. Buggy, the answer to your quest.

Evening, the complimentary cocktail hour for club we had. Covid restrictions lifted and there was alcohol. We sat at Air Bar, under open night skies. Hors d'oeuvres served, more pastries, more tiny little cute packages of finger food. I ordered fried rice in addition. Don’t, because it was a far cry from a good Asian wok-char flavored rice. Stick to the western dishes as they were all much better. There was quite a good number of people as they migrated from dinner at Amber. Most guests we saw, ate inhouse. Flames, the other restaurant by the beach, was not open.

Breakfast was held in Amber, it was a semi-buffet because of Covid. Cold cuts, salads and fruits were self-served, and the rest of the hot items were ordered off the menu, ala-carte buffet style. Amber isn’t that large of a place. We were fortunate this season the guests were few and there was no queue. The spread was limited, was not as extensive as InterContinentals on the mainland. Having dishes cooked on order was great. It was better than a buffet line kept warm where the fresh taste of cookery had already been lost. However, the annoying part was that our breakfast set ordered came deconstructed. Ordering bacon, sausages, baked beans and eggs, they came to our table at different times in small saucers. Waited long for the last item to arrive so that I could re-constructed a full plate of American breakfast. By then, the egg yolk in my sunny side had become not so sunny. It had tuned cold, wasn’t that appetizing no more. During breakfast, we ordered items not on the menu too. There was no smoked salmon for my salad over from the buffet line, but the manager went behind the kitchen and served me some. I love the baked beans here. It was special. It was not open-a-can-pour-it-out baked beans. They affectionally enhanced it up with additional ingredients through cooking. As we ate, we had the view of the ocean in our sight. They skies had opened from the storm prior, white clouds painted on an alluring dark blue canvas. We were showered with sincere services throughout our stay. During breakfast on one of the days, it was time for my child to have her online lesson. The staffs ushered us to the library for her learning needs. And there, we were allowed continue our breakfast within.

The resort was not overly crowded, and it was like having most parts of the resort to ourselves. This could be due to the fact that coming to Samui involved extra preparations compared to mainland destinations. We had to produce our vaccination certificates, and we had to undergo Covid antigen test at one of the designated hospitals 72 hours before arrival. Results must be negative of course. And then there was a Samui pass that we had to apply for. Travelling by air here is not at a budget level of a domestic flight even though this is domestic. I guess the harder it is to come to a place, the more exclusive it will be. The country is opening up soon, and a travel subsidy for locals had recently been introduced after our trip. This had pushed the price of many hotels to an unfair reach for foreigners like me, we don’t get the subsidy. News reported that soon, we can do away with all the proof of vaccinations, the crowds will start to build. We traveled at the right time, serenity aplenty. It was good while it lasted. This is the most luxurious InterContinental we had been to so far. We love every moment of it. The stay has been engraved into our minds as the benchmark of luxury for the chain of IHG hotels that we will come to embark. Our time here, etched permanently as good memories that is hard to forget.

Excellent Service

We had pleasant time and got excellent services ​from all staffs. Especially from Ms. May, a receptionist and Ms. Nok, a staff from Amber restaurant. They was serving us with very detail consideration, even how many bottle of waters we want to be served in room, how we would like to let house keeping make up our room. Ms. Nok, she served us what we want without being told correctly. She always remember what we prefer to eat, drinks during breakfast even we stayed here only 3 nights.

We received very warm welcome from all of staff since arriving hotel. Friendly security guards and even house keeping. Moreover, we love hotel location and view from our room. So I would like to express my impressive on your hotel and staffs. Your hotel will be first choice of mine if I come to Samui again.
