It is close to all transportation needs however, which I am sure most of the hotels in the downtown area are. I would not stay at this hotel for a pleasure trip. Stayed there for a conference. 17. Rated 5,0 out of 5,0 by Birthday Surprises Returning from a night of celebration in the City, a surprise was waiting for me in the room: a birthday cake with Happy Birthday clearly written on top accompanied by two plates and utensils rolled in cloth napkins. At check-in I had been asked if we were celebrating anything--then I received this sweet gift from the staff and a special closure to the weekend's memories. "Thank you, Holiday Inn Chicago-Mart Plaza River North. We've stayed with you before and we will always come back. You're the best!" 17. Oktober 2014
Rated 5,0 out of 5,0 by Unimpressive at street level but lovely inside Great location especially if visiting on the north side of downtown Chicago. Short Inside walk to the Mart CTA stop. Hotel started on the 15th floor so no lobby at ground level-that was a little weird but once you got up to the main lobby, it was very attractive. Also lots of breakfast options in food court at the Merchandise Mart so I didn't have to buy expensive breakfast at the hotel. Customer service was great even though hotel was fully booked during our stay. Asked for an extra blanket, got two in less than 5 minutes. Concierge service was excellent. Nice big, clean rooms.Plenty of elevators-no waiting. 17. Oktober 2014
Rated 5,0 out of 5,0 by Stayed for CHI marathon Really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Staff helped me get to the 'L' before the race and they were friendly answering all of my questions. The room was clean and very comfortable. The view was excellent, too. I would book another stay at this hotel in a heartbeat. 16. Oktober 2014
Rated 1,0 out of 5,0 by Unusually poor service for Holiday Inn I arrived after the check in time and my room was not ready. I was apparently upgraded instead but the room I was put in did not have the views I was promised and whilst very large was old and dated. The carpet was getting threadbare and the furniture outdated. The room was unlike the ones shown on the website. Aprt from the cleaning staff my experience of the bar staff and reception was not good. We found the bar staff to be very miserable. The Hotel is however in an excellent location and providing the above issues were taken care of I would stay there again. 16. Oktober 2014
Rated 2,0 out of 5,0 by POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE The room was great and everything that I expected when I booked. The only issue we had was the CUSTOMER SERVICE! We were there this past weekend for the marathon, we were promised something several times by them and they did not deliver on that promise. When speaking to front desk and the supervisor we were not treated very well. They did not want to hear us out and were quick to get rid of us. We understand that it was a big weekend for the hotel with a lot of guests checking in/out at one time but don't lie to the customer just to get a booking. Our experience was soured because of certain people at the front desk staff of the hotel. Beautiful room with great views but POOR customer service. 16. Oktober 2014
