Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lack of Commumication I recently stayed here having booked 8 rooms for parents and children of a girls football team. I booked the rooms using Laterooms and received a very good price for the rooms. On my booking i asked for 5 twin rooms and 3 family rooms which i was assured would be provided. The importance of this was some of the girls were traveling with 1 parent and some with 2, fairly straight forward. I also informed them the party would be arriving seperately between the hours of 20:00 and 22:00 hrs so would require these rooms on arrival as the girls were under 10 and needed to go straight to sleep. I arrived at 21:30 to be told that the family rooms had not been set up and some of the parents had been waiting in reception for over an hour. The twin rooms were provided immediately, which was at least something. To save myself from writing a whole essay on how unhelpful the staff were i will just say the final family room was eventually sorted at 23:00hrs, which was 3 hours after the 1st parents had arrived. Needless to say this was not acceptable and we had some very tired children on the Saturday morning. Would i recommend this hotel? Absolutely NOT. Did we receive an apology for the mix up? Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Old fashioned, grubby and unloved Although there were two staff at reception, and one was busy, it took 5 minutes before I was booked in. No "I will be with you in a moment", just totally ignoring me. the hotel itself is an example of what the cheaper Holiday Inns were like 10 years ago. Grubby carpets in the room corridors, small "executive" rooms, and so on. The bar staff were attentive, as was reception when I checked out. The bar area itself was amazingly noisy, firstly from children running around (it happens), but once they left the staff were getting the area ready for breakfast, and were noisier than the children, shouting around, scraping furniture etc. Overall it had the feeling of somewhere that nobody cared about anymore. Bathrooms look nice until you try to close the door, a re-layout is required here. My first room had to be changed as the carpet outside the bathroom was wet from something. The staff were very friendly and helpful. June 29, 2015

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A Good Hotel that has Become very Tired I first came to this hotel about 8 years ago and since then it seems to have become tired and frayed around the edges. Staff are warm and friendly but the general atmosphere is not up to the standard you would expect. In our room, the bathroom door did not fit the frame or close properly, one of the bottles of shower gel was already half used and the pillows/bed were rock hard . . . . and an empty box of tissues was artfully garnished with a single tissue to give the impression of a full box :P! The spa area was understaffed with no one to greet guests when we arrived. A general feeling of cost cutting everywhere! It is reasonable for the price but it needs a good shakeup before it can be somewhere you would visit for pleasure. June 25, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not up to usual IHG Standards We arrived very late on our first night and although we had prepaid our room, were asked to secure £100 on our debit card, in case of room service (the previous weekend, in another IHG hotel, we were not asked for this, under exactly the same circumstances). When we came to check-out, although I requested this, they did not refund through the chip and pin machine, but said they would have to contact the bank. We felt this was strange. The room was OK, but the bathrooms are extremely cramped, especially around the toilet area. Obviously an issue which couldn't be solved easily, along with the lack of lifts and the shabby (and in places lifting) corridor and stair carpets. We complained to the staff about two incidents. Firstly, a cleaner had plugged in a hoover and left the cable at waist-height, taut across across the bottom of the main stairs and then over the banister and down to the floor below. There was no way of asking the cleaner to remove it as we were a floor above and the hoover was noisy (we did try). We eventually had to unplug it. Secondly, our second morning breakfast was extremely busy. Although the staff were courteous and prepared to do anything, there were no plates at the hot buffet and no tea in the urn and I had to request both refills. Further, on our first morning, the staff had been able to find and toast for me gluten free rolls (although bread is usual in any other IHG hotel) and did so quickly. However, on the second morning, although I asked for the same, it seemed to be much more of a challenge and it came out as bread (warm in places, as it obviously had just been defrosted in a microwave) and not toasted. We felt that this hotel was not up to the usual standards of the IHG band. We note that it is 'under licence' to managing company. June 25, 2015
