Fell far short of my expectations of Holiday Inn Express. Very poor for the money.

The location in central Croydon in excellent if that is where you need to be.
But it is approached by a side street that could be a little off putting for some.
Overall a very typical Hilday Inn Express experience.

However more amenities needed...better in house restaurant...room service...better breakfast and upgraded bar services

We arrived by train and it was very hard to find the hote
there was only boddingtons or becks lager available on draught on the bar which i found a bit poor for a quality hotel especially in London
The pictured show a hot buffet breakfast available but there were only sausages, beans and scrambled egg no bacon, fried egg. tomato as you would normally expect. the rest of the offering was excellent including warm croissants
no food available in the bar when we returned from the races around 9pm so following advice from reception ended up going accross the road to kfc and getting takeaway.

Booked the hotel for a nights stay a week ago. It said limited parking so I telephoned. They asked me to call back the day before to book but when I did so they said they had no parking and I should not have been told that.
Upon check in I was allocated a room and headed up to the lift. Only one lift working (receptionist said it could be out for a while as its had issues). Got to the room key didn't work. Went back to reception, apology new key. Waited for lift in queue back to the 8th floor key didn't work again. Back to reception new key with receptionist in tow tried again. Waited for lift and no it didn't work again. She went to reception to organise another room. Twenty minutes later she turned up with new room and key hooray it worked. Got into room tried to use wifi code WRONG, I had apparently been given the code from the previous day. New code hooray. Workmen repairing road outside for 15 minutes drilling at 8.15pm not great.
Check out, systems not working cannot print bill. No discounted parking voucher available and couldn't be added to bill. Twenty minutes wait...hooray bill and free parking voucher (I should think so).
And that's the service offered to a platinum member.

The train station is five minutes walk (East Croydon) and this is a well placed hotel for Gatwick Airport with good connections to London Victoria (even at 2.00 a.m.).
Only quibble is they did not acknowledge my card by the usual voucher. Otherwise all excellent.

First I was disappointed because the hotel was a little bit outside but then it was perfect! We went by train - only two stations from Victoria - almost everytime and with the Oyster Card we didn't have to pay extra.

A well run, friendly and clean HIEx. Staff very polite and helpful, especially when the computer system crashed! A lovely stay, and only 25 mins from Victoria which makes it ideal for the City.
