Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Staying 2 Days I understand that they are still renovating the rooms but the hallway and walls needs some cleaning or painting. Free Internet was very slow at night. Way slower than the other Holiday Inn's I stayed during my trip and this was the least busiest. Breakfast on first day was disappointing. Choice for this hotel is less than the Grover Beach and Santa Barbara locations I stayed in. Normally theres Gravy and bread plus Bacon or Sausage not Gravy/Bread or Sausage or Bacon. 01 May 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Needs Help This property is distressed and needs maintenance and remodeling. Most rooms have two double beds. We were unable to move to a king room, and we were told that no rooms had queen beds. We were not comfortable in a double bed. And the beds were too soft. Problems - Blinds would not close. We reported, but they were not fixed. - In room phone. Could not call the desk. - Ice machine in the 3rd floor. Out for three days. - Noisy. Thin walls. In the past I have considered Holiday Inn Express a consistent value, but recently I experienced three below par properties. Also the breakfast is consistently poor. This could easily be improved with a little effort and a small expense, but management does not care. It's time for me to look elsewhere. 20 April 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by This one needs some work I love staying at most Holiday Inns - I enjoy the Priority Program - and overall - I feel like it's a pretty good deal. But this one needs some work - it must be old. The rooms are very small. They were putting in new carpet - loud banging every morning by 9 AM - on the weekend. Smell was difficult - new carpet smell -very strong in our room. The rooms open to the outdoors like a motel - makes the outside people pretty noisy at night. Breakfast was the only great thing. The water was on and off - couldn't take a proper shower b/c of this. There was dirty water left in the tub when we got there. The office staff didn't seem to care - not even 10% off or something for all the noise and uncomfortable - I will always try to remember to ask: "Are you doing any remodeling or construction" the next time I book a room. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights.. It is worth the price for the buffet choices. I felt like I was eating at a restaurant. The guys at the front desk gave us wrong directions but the room service made up for that fiasco. The room is clean with a great pool view and a trail view. Strongly recommended for families with children. 12 April 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Small Rooms and Bathrooms at a Good Location I took my 2 sons up to Monterey over Easter break. The hotel is set off a main street with a beautiful ocean view just beyond that. We stayed in a double room on the 5th floor. I was worried about the noise as my son is very noise sensitive but he didn't mention it once. The bathroom was very small with hardly enough room for 1 person. Fortunately the toilet room was completely separate from the wash basin. The hotel in its entirety was very clean and well kept. The pool was a relaxing space after a day at the Aquarium and Dennis the Menace Park, both, less than a 10 minute drive from the property. The property was comfortable but I want to mention that it was the kindness and attentiveness of the staff that even my boys appreciated. 11 April 2013

Front desk attendants were not nearly as friendly as most we have encountered. And what is up with a double bed? For the price charged this is not a value. 11 April 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good Value We stayed at the Seaside Holiday Inn Express for a trip to the Monterey/Carmel area. The rooms were clean, comfortable and it looked like the bathroom was recently updated. Our rooms faced the ocean/highway and I was concerned about noise because I'm a light sleeper but I was able to sleep just fine. With that said, the only negative is the outdoor hallways. Whenever I stay at a hotel with an outdoor hallway there is always someone who walks by being really loud or letting their kids run by making all sorts of noise. The hotel is just a short trip from Cannery Row and the aquarium. The free breakfast in the morning was nice and plenty of choices. Overall, this hotel is a great value and I would stay there again. 11 April 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Small and unclean rooms The room had not been cleaned very well. There was garbage on the floor from the previous occupants along with other debris on the carpet and tile. There were squished bugs on the ceiling (we hope it was a bug), that my husband had to clean off as it was right over the top of the bed and my daughter wouldn't sleep there. The rooms were so small that we were literally tripping over each other while trying to get ready. We spent the day out and about and upon our return at 4:30 in the afternoon, the room still had not been serviced. We just asked for towels and went without it being done. I would not stay here again, nor will I recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Monterey. 08 April 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Tight Squeeze The staff was very nice, and as accommodating as they could be. We asked for a microwave and fridge and all we got was a fridge. The room was so small. We had 4 people and it was insane. The sink and counter area, which was separate from the toilet and shower, was so small, only one person could stand in front of it at a time. We ended up having to stay an extra day due to a sick child, and it was so uncomfortable in a room so small. One person was always having to get out of the way so the other person could pass by. 04 April 2013

Each day the breakfast was poor and very little seating for the amount of people and each day they were out of something, day one no tea or pancake mix, day two no seats or eggs or biscuits. The rooms are of the old styles hotels with outside facing doors poor decor. I used points for the stay and expected much more for the amount of points that I had to use. The manager did offer to give me 10000 points to make up for the issues but I declined. Thinking back I should have accepted them. 03 April 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It's good but it could be better There is nothing bad about this hotel but it could be better with a little effort. Everything was good enough but the water was not quite hot, the WiFi was pretty slow and upon checkin, I asked about the fitness room. I was told it was minimal with only two treadmills. I was surprised to see a bike and elliptical walking past the fitness room after I had worked out in my room the next morning. Fatal flaws? No. But I've stayed in HIE all over the country and this was just not quite there. I stay at HIE because it is very predictable and a good value. Without good WiFI, I'm wasting some of my time. Rededicate and I think this hotel can be fine. 01 April 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Hotel with EXCELLENT customer service I will stay again! I had a good stay at this Holiday Inn Express on March 19, 2013. Nothing fantastic, and nothing terrible. My experience made the turn to EXCELLENT however, when I realized the next day that I had accidentally left my wedding ring in my room. After two separate searches, and two return phone calls to me, the housekeeping staff and customer service manager, Kevin located it! The integrity of the staff, and willingness to help me in my state of concern was very appreciated. These people care about their customers. What else can you ask for? 26 March 2013

We also did not realize there was a second room available for breakfast. Great breakfast - loved the pancake maker!! Much cleaner than a waffle maker. Family from El Dorado Hills, CA 24 March 2013

TV didn't work, heater/aircon sounded like a freight train every 15 minutes all night, general facility cleanliness and material condition has taken sharp downturn in the last 3 years. The service is always great, the beds are comfortable, and the pillows are great. This hotel did not disappoint! The only recommendaion we have is to upgrade your lightbulbs to make the room bright enough to be able to read. As with all hotels, your rooms are definitely not bright enough. 02 February 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good enough to stay out of the rain and sleep. I wasn't in the room except for shower and sleep. However, the room had poor circulation and the mattress was soft and weak (I prefer firm#. The room is outdated, the furniture is old, dull yellow lighting #I prefer day light lamps), and you can notice the paint chipping on the metal door frames. Staff is friendly. I was provided a refriderator, which was good, but it still had the fast food water cup from the prior use in their. I'm assuming they "cleaned" it out before giving it to me. It was probably the same one near our room sitting out on the walkway before we enteried the room and they just handed it off us. The town was sold out, so this provided us with the basics roof, heat, bed, and shower. 25 January 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not the Best in Town This is an adopted Holiday Inn Express ie not built as a HIE property and clearly showed in room configurations and amenities . View rooms are not worth the increased noise , take the back which overlooks a lake . Top floor room I was in had horrid water pressure and I suspect this is true with higher level rooms as it did not seem to surprise front desk staff . I have stayed hundreds of nights in IHG hotels and in 2 other properties on Monterey Peninsula and would say "Pick a different Hotel ! " . Priority Platinum Member 14 January 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by The staff are very nice and helpful I travel to the Monterey Bay area twice a month and find that they treat me like family when I arrive. Most of the staff remembers my name and has all my paperwork ready when I walk through the door. This may not seem like much be after a long day those little things mean a lot. Checking out is the same thing with making my next reservation. My room is always ready for me and the treats they give me are great. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Almost Perfect! When I checked it, I was pleasantly surprised by 3 snack bags for each of my kids consisting of trail mix and a cookie. The room was clean, comfortable and fully stocked for 4 people. The surprising thing was no microwave or fridge which I am used to when staying at Holiday Inn Express. Thankfully we didn't have a need but I have a strong suspicion that had we needed to use a microwave, we would have been accommodated. The pancake maker was broken when I got down to breakfast half an hour before it closed and I had to scrape up the gravy for the biscuit. There were omellettes but they used american cheese which I personally don't care for so I was disappointed there wasn't any meat to go along with my almost dry biscuit. 04 December 2012
